To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE B. NAsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo,'in the county of Lucas and-State of. Ohio,"have invented a certain new and useful Display-Cabinet; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, sttch as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. v

'This invention relates to cabinets" and particularly to those of the display 'type, and has for its object the provision of a cabinet of this character which is simple and economical in its construction and which is provided with improved means fors'ecuring the front glass therein in a manner to permit afi easy removal thereof.

The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while, in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front perspective viewof a cabinet embodying the invention. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary rear elevation of an upper corner portion thereof. Referring to the drawings, 1, 2 and 3 designate the top, sides and bottom of a body frame of a cabinet embodying theinvention, which frame is of rectangular form and open at front and back, and is prefer ably made of wood or other light material.

The top and bottom at their ends are preferably, but not necessarily, extended slightly beyond the outer sides of the frame sides, and the bottom is extended at its front edge slightly beyond the front edge plane of the sides. a

A back plate 4 closes the rear or back side of the frame, being nailed, screwed or otherwise suitably secured at its edge portions to the rear edge thereof, and this plate is provided with a plurality of forwardly struck tongues 5 for carrying the articles to be displayed. The tongues, in the inward in forwardly spaced relation to the front edges of the frame sides to form flanges 8. These flanges coiiperate with the front edges of the frame sides to form inwardly opening vertical guide grooves 9 for slidingly retaining the side edges of the glass 10 closing the front side of the cabinet. This glass rests at its lower edge upon the forwardly extended edge portion of the frame bottom 3 and is preferably of suflicient length for its upper end to lap the front edge of the frame top 1 when the glass is in'closed position. A channel strip 1.1 is fitted around the end and front edges of the bottom 3 in embracing coaction therewith and this strip has an upstanding flange 12 at its inner top edgein advance of the frame openin and in the plane of the flanges 8 to a apt it to lap the lower edge of the glass 10 when in closed position;

A channel strip 13 embraces the extended .ends of the frame top 1 and extends across the front edge of the top in forwardly spaced relation thereto to give the top an overhanging front edge eflect and at the same time to leave the top edge of the glass 10 uncovered to permit its upward withdrawal from the frame. y

The top plate 14 .of sheet metal, in the present instance, is mounted over the frame top 1 with its end edges engaged under the top edge flanges of the end portions of the channel strip 13 for sliding movements transverse to the top and with its forward edge projected over the glass 10 to close the opening in which it slides and extended into the channel of the front portion of said strip. The rear edge of the plate 10 is provided with a downwardly turned flange 15, which is adapted to closely lap the top edge of the back casing sheet 6 when the top plate is in closed position. The to plate 14 is retained in closedfposition y the screws 16, which project through the flange 15 and upper edges of the back sheet 6 and plate 4 and thread into the rear edge of the frame top 1. If the cabinet is provided with hangers 17 to adapt it to be hung on a I Wall or other suitable support, such hangers unless a person understood the purpose of said top plate, it probably would not occur to him that it was employed to secure the glass 10 in position in the cabinet. Inasmuch as the plate 14: cannot be removed without takin' thecabinet down from the wall or other 0 ject by which supported and removing the screws 16 and turnin down the hangers 17, this manner of securing the glass 10 in position tends to prevent an unauthorized opening of the cabinet to remove articles displayed.

I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction, arrangement or form of the parts as it is capable of numerous modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of the claims;

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A cabinet havin a front opening and a top openin and rovided with slide-ways at the sides 0 the front opening, means forming a'border member at the sides and front of the top opening, the front portion of which member is in advance of said slideways, a closure member for said front opening slidable in said slideways through the top opening, and a top plate mounted to "slide in said border member forwardly and ,opening and provided with slide-ways at the sides of said openings, a glass plate slidably mounted in one of said ways and closing said front opening and removable therefrom through the top opening, a top plate mounted for sliding movements over the cabinet top and adapted to close said top opening over the glass plate, and cabinet hangers movably secured to the back of the cabinet and when in usable position coacting with said top plate to retain it in closed position.
