Description

UNITED STATESt PATENT OFFICE.
JEROME M. GRAY, OF HAMILTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEM ENT IN SNOW-PLOWS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,333, dated January 13, 1874; application filed October 6, 1873.
i Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEROME M. GRAY, of Hamilton, in the county of Madison, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improved Snow-Plow for Sidewalks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and lexact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure 1 represents the plan.' Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of one-half of Fig. 1. Fig.
' 3 is a section at G G, Figs. l and 2. Fig. 4 is is attached to the hook D at the top of the plow, at some distance from the point. EX- tending the draft-chain F on either side to B will cause the plow to be drawn diagonally, and remove snow from one side of the walk to the other. Extending both draft-chains F F to B gives the plow more power to penetrate compact snow. G represents the sliding bars of the self-adjusting seat C, which is extended or shortened a-s the plowis widened or contracted.
H represents foot-rests, removable at pleasure.
I represents the sliding hinged braces joined to the plow at L L, allowing it to be widened K represents the handles to the plow. By lifting the seat O and foot-rests H H, and removing the thumb-screws J J, the plow may be folded to occupy a small space.
The advantages of the whole combination or arrangement as a snow-plow are many, and must be obvious to all.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A snow-plow having the sides L hinged at the point E, and shod with the beveled shoes A A, and provided with draft-irons D, which are attached to the top at some 'distancerfroin the point E, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In combinationwith the sides L, the footrests H and seat C, provided `with adjustable side supports C O, as and for the purpose described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 19th day of September, 187 3.
JEROME M. GRAY.
