UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES B.'WOOD, OF CLEAR LAKE, IOWA.
ROAD-SC RAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,295, dated October 3, 1882.
Application filed July 17, 188-2.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs B. W001), of Clear Lake, in the county of Cerro Gordo and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road-Scrapers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, Fig. 2 is a rear view, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinalvertical sectional view, of my improved road-scraper.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to road-scrapers; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents an upright, to the upper end of which downward and outward projecting diagonal braces B B are securely attached.
0 is the body of the scraper, which consists of a heavy plank secured to the front side of nprightA and braces B B. It is provided with a shoe, D, of iron or steel, side flanges, E E, of similar material, and a top piece or cap, F.
G is the tongue, which projects forwardly from upright A, andis connected to the body 0 of the scraper by brace-rods H.
The upright A is provided on its rear side, near its upper end, with a lug, I, to which is pivoted a lever, J. Pivoted to the sides of said lever, at some distance from the fulcrum,
(No model.)
is a pair of braces, K, projecting upwardly from the axle P, to which the said braces are secured near the wheels L. The axle is journa-led in boxes M at the rear ends of connecting-rods N, pivoted to and extending rearwardly from the braces B B.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the operation of my invention will be readily understood. By raising the lever J the wheels are lifted off the ground, thus throwing the scraper into operation. For transporting the scraper or in turning corners it is only neces sary to depress the lever, thus lifting the scraper off the ground and supporting it upon the wheels. The construction is exceedingly simple, and the device may be easily 1nanipulated.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination of the upright A, braces B B, scraper G, secured to the front side of JAMES 1:. W001).
