Description

H. L. DANIELS. Sulky Plow.
(No Model.)
Patented March 15,1881.
N PETERS, PHOTO L THOGR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
HORACE L. DANIELS, OF REDWOOD FALLS, MINNESOTA.
SULKY-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,766, dated March 15, 1881.
Application filed June 9, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HORACE L. DANIELS, of Redwood Falls, in the county of Redwood and State of Miunesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sulky-Plows; and Ido herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in sulky-plows; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, which fully illustrate my intention, Figure l is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a side elevation.
Arepresents the bent axle; B,the wheels, and O the seat attached to the axle.
To one side of the axle is secured the beam D, to the forward end of which is secured the brace-rod E, the rear end of which is secured to the axle.
To the rear ends of the beam D and rod E is secured a bail, F, working in hearings in said parts D E, whereby it may be swung up or down by means of a lever, Gr, secured to an extension of the bail at one side and may be maintained in its position by means of a rack, H, with which said lever engages,wl1ich is secured to the beam D.
To the bail F is hung, in any suitable manner, the plow-beam I, carrying the plow J.
To the forward end of the plow-beam is secured a rod, 0, extending upward and pivoted (No model) b to the lever b. Said lever b is pivoted, at or near its center, to a rod, 0, extending crosswise of the frame and secured to the parts D E, near their forward ends. The lever 12 is of curved form, and is provided at either end with the foot-rests am. By bearing down upon and retaining the pressure upon the end an the end of the plow-beam is raised, lifting the plow out of the ground. By bearing upon the end 00 the pointof the plowis held into the ground.
The parts D and E are secured to the axle A by means of clamps d passing around said axle, and loosened or tightened, as desired,by means of nuts 6. By this arrangement it will be seen that either side of the device may be adjusted up or down upon the axle for the purpose of leveling, and that it can also be adjusted to receive any plow independent of the height of its plow-beam.
By the peculiar construction of the foot-lever b the pressing of the forward end depresses the plow-point, while pressing the rear end raises the same from out of the ground.
Having thus fully described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The lever 12, of curved form, and pivoted at its center and provided with the foot-rests a: 00, in combination with the plow-beam I, carrying plow J, bail I, and lever Gr, constructed and operatingsubstantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HORACE L. DANIELS.
