U ITED STATES PATENT Ornrce,
WILLIAM H. GREEN, OF KINGSBURY, TEXAS.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,090, dated July 5, 1887.
Application filed February 11, 1887. Serial No. 227,328. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM H. GREEN, of Kingsbury, in the county of Guadalupe and State of Texas, have invented a new. and use ful Improvement in Ilows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in plows; and it consists in certain features of construction and novel combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a sectional elevation of my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of a part thereof.
The plow-share A, beam B, and handles 1) may be generally of the ordinary construction. The axle D, bolster E, and hounds F may be similar to the rear axle, bolster, and rear hounds of an ordinary wagon-gear. In fact, the invention is designed to use such part of a wagon-gear and the hind wheels thereof as a carriage, and such carriage and the pole form the supporting-frame.
In the use of the improvement I pass the tongue or pole C in rear of the axle and fix to it, in rear of such axle, one end of a clip, G, which loops under the axle, and is provided with a bolt-seat, 9, preferably a hook, as shown at its forward end. A box-clip, H, is fitted over the tongue in front of the axle and has its arms h depending thence. Abolt, 1, connects such arms and engages the bolt seat g of the axle-clip G, thus uniting the axle and tongue, so they may be easily detached, when so desired. The arms h of clip H hang down sufficiently to rest on opposite sides of the plowbeam and brace such beam from lateral movement, and yet permit the desired vertical movement thereof. To the frame, in rear of the axle, are fixed bars I I, which depend there from to brace the plow-beam in similar manner to arms 71, and such bars extend above the said frame to provide a pivotal support engage an eye, I, on the beam, so that by operating the lever the plow may be raised or lowered, and when raised may be held in such position by engaging the forward end of the lever with a catch, j, on the frame, as will be understood from the drawings. The forward end of the beam is joined by draft-connection M and adj Listing-connection N with the frame, usually with the pole, as shown, the former part, M, serving to transmit the draft to the beam, while the part N serves to adjust the beam and thus regulate the depth of the plow. The colter-b1ade O is pivoted at 0 to the frame, and is secured to the beam by a ring or clip, 1?, embracing the beam and colter, as shown. The clip or ring P fits the beam loosely and will slide back thereon and remain at the farthest point in the different adjustments of the beam. The drivers seat Q is supported on the frame, and such seat may be provided with a standard or bar, q, fitted to the standard socket e of the bolster E.
It will be seen that, the plow may be detached and used independent of the frame or carriage; also, that the tongue or pole may be detached and removed from the axle, and such axle, together with the bolster and hounds, may be applied to and used with the farm or other wagon; Thus by means of the attachments described a farmer can, by providing himself with the pole and the attachments thereto, as described, readily convert his ordinary walking-p1ow into a wheel-plow by the aid of the hind wheels, axle, and hounds of his ordinary farnrwagon.
It will be seen that by my invention a farmer having an ordinary wagon and plow can, with but a small additional expense, have an efficient wheel-plow.
The plow when constructed as described is not likely to choke up with weeds or grass, and the peculiar arrangement of the coltcr will be found especially desirable in stumpy and foul land.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. In a plow, the pole or tongue G, provided with the clip G, secured at one end to said pole, and having at its opposite end a H, fitted over the pole, and having its arms h plow-beam, and fitting the beam loosely, sub- 10 depending on opposite sides thereof, and the stantially as set forth. bolt 1 combined with the carria e and the 5 plow proper, substantially as set Forth. WILLIAM GREEN 2. The combination of the carriage, the pole l Witnesses:
hook, g, forniing'a bolt bearing the box-clip I a clip, P, embracing the said blade and the or beam 0, the plow-beam B, the colter-blade \VIL-LIAM H. NANCE, O, pivoted at its upper end to the pole C, and JOHN MAOKEY.
