Be it known that I, RUDOLPH RAINALTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have inventedl certain new and useful Improvements in Box Fasteners; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such asy will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to box fasteners and consists in certain novel parts and combina` tions of parts, all of which will be specifically described hereinafter, it being understood that changes in form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

2 and 3 are provided with grooves 6 and 7, in which may be located the flanges 8 of Z-shaped braces 9, the flanges 10 disposed opposite to the flanges 8 being adapted to overlap the shouldered portion 11 of the front andl rear walls of the case so that an eliieient metallic bracing means will be provided at the four corners of the case.

The bottom will be secured in any well known manner. The sides and ends are tied together by tie rods 12 and 13, which intersect one another, the rods being provided with threaded ends 14 for the cross rods and threaded ends 15 for the longitudinal rods 13. The ends of the longitudinal rods en` gage threaded nipples or sleeves 16 in one Serial No. 461,126.

Similar sleeves 19 may be provided in the front end of the box for the threaded ends 14 of the rod 12. Therefore, tension may be placed on the rods to efliciently tie the parts together, both longitudinally and transversely and if desired, a vertical partition 2O may be provided for the interior of the box, as shown in Fig. 1.

The case is provided with a lid or cover 21, adapted to be hingedly secured to the rear wall 4 of the case. The preferred form of hinge is shown in Fig. 4 as comprising a substantially U-shaped wall engaging member 22 having a front wall 23 and a rear wall 24, connected by a web 25. The rear wall 24 is shown as cut so as to provide

The lower end of the wall 23 terminates in a sleeve or barrel-shaped portion 34, which is engaged by a rod 35, fastened to the case in substantially the saine manner as the rods 13; the rod 35, therefore, constituting a hinged securing means as well asa tension or bracing member for the case.

`When the parts or hinged members are in the positions shown in Figs. 3 and 4, it is apparent that the two hinged members 22 will constitute an eficient means for hingedly securing the cover 21 to the case.

At the forward edge of the cover 21 is a plate 36 having its end extending slightly beyond the forward edge of the cover 21 and `provided. with a seal-wirereceiving opening 37, adapted to align with the sealwire-receiving opening 38 of a lock member which consists of a U-shaped member having a rear plate 39, a front plate 40 and a connecting web 41. There is a special advantage in providing the locking ineanson the front of the 'box vvi'th the seal `

37 and 38 projecting outwardly. YWith such a` construction, the boxes can be filled and piled one upon the other, then the sealer can have access to the projections so that the seals can be put on the boxes While they are in piles or tiers.

This is a material advantage over those forms of locks Which have the seals on the top, as will be clearly apparent.

It will also be apparent that the entire case may be vout and assembled `Without the necessity of employing nails and that the finished product Will be quitestrong and durable.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is: v v

and a complemtnary plate having a lip to be engaged by the hook on the bolt Vand an end provided v'vith an opening to align with the opening in V`tlie outstanding lip of the Plate.
