P, TOPFNER TROUSERS PROTECTOR Filed Nov. 9, 1920 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 m w a v INVBQTOR ATTORNEY WITNBS:
:en'rnn 'rorrnnn, or
'rnonsnns Application filed November T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PETER TorrNER, a citizen of Hungary, residin at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and tate of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trousers Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to protectors for rotecting the lower part of the trousers legs rom rain and the like, the principal ob ect of the invention being to provide a pair of water proof protectors for enclosing the I trouser legs and extending from the shoe to apoint well above the bottom of the rain coat.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the protectors may be easily and quickly placed in position.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the protector can be connected. with the bottom of the raincoat when necessary to prevent the blowing of the coat above the protectors by the wind.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a view showing one of the protectors in open position. v
Figure 3'is a front view of the upper portion of one of the protectors.
I Figure 4, is a detail view.
In these views 1 indicates the trousers and 2 the raincoat. As before stated, my protectors are adapted to keep the rain or snow off that part of the trousers legs which is below the'raincoat. The body portionof the protector, as indicated by the numeral 3, is formed from sections of water proofing material suitably secured together in a shape to enclose the lower leg portion of a pair of trousers. The protector is made slightly larger than the trousersso that it can easily be slipped over the trousers without creasing or folding the leg of the trousers. Each protector is provided with extension 4 at nn'rnorr, MICHIGAN.
PROTECTOR.

its upper end at the sides thereof which are of substantially inverted \/-shape and the upper end of these extensions carry safety pins 5 which are adapted to be passed through the trousers to hold the protector in I place. If the protector is made of rubber or similar material I prefer to place stripsof 4 thereof and the upper edges of these pieces are also reinforced by the strips of tape 8.
This tape not only reinforces the material but also prevents undue stretching of the same.
The protectors are provided With the front and rear creases to receive the creases in the trousers legs, and, if desired, strips 9 of adhesive tape may be placed along the side seams 10 of the device. These strips run to the upper ends of the extensions at. if desired these strips may be placed at the creases at the front and rear as shown at 9 so as to help to retain the creases in the trousers.
i prefer to have the lower ends of the protectors extend below. the bottom of the legs of the trousers as shown in Figure 1 and to rest upon the shoe.
Upon the outside of each protector I place a catch or pin 11 of any desired type for engaging the bottom of the raincoat so "as to prevent the wind from blowing the coat above the tops of the protectors.
I may also place a reinforcing strip 12 in the trousers, if the trousers are unlined, to keep the pins from injuring the trousers and pulling them out of shape.
It will thus be seenthat the lower part of the legs of the trousers are thoroughly protected from the water runningoff the coat and from mud, rain, snow and from the moisture on bushes and the like.
1 It will also be seen that the protectors can a be easily and quickly slipped over the from sers and removed therefrom and I prefer to make the protectors ofvsuch weight. that they can be easily folded and placed in the pockets of the raincoat.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A protector of the character described comprising a body portion formed from sections of 'Water proof material secured together and shaped to conform to the leg portion of a pair of trousers, an inverted V- shaped extension formed on diametrically oppos'itesides of the body portion at the upper end thereof and joining each other at the respective ends of their bases, safety pins 1 PETER T O PFNER.
