|MPRovEMENT IN NuTMEG-GRATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,884, dated December 23, 1873 applica-tion filed September 27, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, THOMAS MARRIOTT, o Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Nutmeg-Graters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciiication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a vertical longitudinal section oi' my nutmeggrater. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view.
This invention has relation to nutmeg-graters. My object is to arrange inside of a Suitable box, which is divided into two apartments, arotary rasping-disk and a Spring pressureplate, one end of the spring of which is extended through a Slot made through the cover of the box, for the purpose of controlling the pressure of the plate on the nutmeg while` containing nutmegs, and supporting the nut! meg which is in a position for being grated. D represents a rasping-disk, which is keyed on one end of a crank-handle, b, and arranged inside of the box A, so that one-half of it is exposed above the diaphragm C. E represents a Spring-arm, which is secured to'one side of thevbox A, near its open end, and which passes up through slots made through the diaphragm C and hinged cover B. To that portion of the spring-arm which passes through the chamber a, a spurred pressureplate, c, is rigidly secured, between which and the disk D the nutmeg to be grated is placed, as shown in Fig. l. The pressure-plate and its spring are arranged on one side of the center of the rasping-disk D, as shown in Fig. 2, and the disk is rotated in the direction indicated by the arrow, So that a nutmeg con- `iined. between the pressure-plate and disk will The rotar ras inw-disk D arran ed inside of a box, A, which is divided by a diaphragm, C, in combination with a pressure-plate, e, applied to a spring-arm, E, which is extended through a cover, B, substantially in the inanner and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS MARRIOTT.
