G. B. JOERGER CIGAR OR CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed March 22 .Y 1922 Patented June 5, 1923.
UNITED. STATES GEORG-E B. JOERGER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CIGAR OR CIGARETTE HOLDER.
Application mea March 22, 1922. serial No. 545,868.
To all whom z' may concern:
Be it knowp that I, GEQRGE B. J OERGER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook,
and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar or Cigarette Holders, of which the following is a specification. l
This invention relates to cigar or cigarette holders, and particularly to a foraminous attachment therefor intended to retain the ash of the cigar or cigarette until such time as it is convenient to release the ash. The objects of the invention are to provide .a holder of the class mentioned which is suitable for use by smokers in such places as'automobiles, where it is windy and it 'is desired to prevent the ashes from being blown about. i
With this en`d in view, the device consists of a cigar or cigarette holder having a bit of usual form, but epuipped with a foraminous cylindrical enclosure for the cigar or.
cigarette, which enclosure permits the air to pass inwardly to the lightedend of the cigar or cigarette, but prevents the ashes from falling to the fioor. This foraminous enclosure is slidable along a guide member which is threaded to or otherwise attached to the end of the bit. The purpose Aof making the cylindrical foraminous member slidable along the support is for releasing lthe ash without removing the attachment from the bit and for convenience in placing a cigar or cigarette in the holder.
The objects of the invention are accomplished by the device illustrated in the drawing, in Which- Figure 1 is an exterior view of a cigar or cigarette holder equipped with the present improvements.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged View in longitudinal section takenon the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the guide for the foraminous cylinder.
Fig 4 is a sectional detail takenon the line 4-4 of Fig 2.
Fi 5 is an end view of the member illustrate in Fig. 3.
The structure as illustrated comprises a bit or holder 1, having a threaded end 2 vfor receiving the guide 3. This guide .is interiorly threaded at the cylindrical part 4 thereof for coacting with the thread 2 on the bit l1. The guide is preferably formed from thin metallic tubing which i's cut away between cylindrical ends 4 and 5, leaving the longitudinal connecting strips 6 and 7. The strip 6 is provided with a longitudinal slot 8 which terminates in the bayonet form 9' in the cylindrical part 5 of the guide. The foraminous cylinder 10 is slidable along the guide member 3 which it surrounds, and is provided with an inwardly extending prol tuberance -11 for Vcoactin with the slot 8.
In assembling the device, the guide member 3 is first attached to the bit 41, and then the foraminous cylinder 8 is slid on to the guide, causing the protuberance 11 to' enter the bayonet slot 9 andthe'n pass inwardly along the slot 8'. Air may pass through the perforated sides of the cylinder 8 or through the perforated end 12 of the cylinder. 4When it is desired to remove the ash the cylinder 8 is slid outwardly, but it is not necessary 75 to remove it from the guide 3, as the ash may fallv through this guide between the longitudinal strips 6 and 7 The end 12 of the cylinder is shown in the form of a removable cap to permit ejection of ashes or the cigarette through the end of the cylinder.
^Although but one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein shown and described it will be understood that numerous details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted' without departin from the spirit of this invention as defi-ne by the following claim I claim:
A holder of the class described comprising a bit, a guide member attached thereto, said `guide member having cylindrical ends andV bein partly cut away between said cylindrica ends, and a foraminous cylinder slidable on said guide. Signed at Chicagol this 18th day of March, 1922.f
