7 '0 all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, NEWTON J. DARDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and and useful Improvements in a Necktie Holder, of which the following isv a specification.

This invention Comprises a necktie holder, It is contemplated by this invention to provide a device that may be used in connection with collars of different styles and widths which may be quickly placed in position by buttoning it to the collar button; and. that will carry a tie detachably arranged on a detachable spring memberv of the device in such a way that the tie carrying portion may be changed at will without renewing that portion which is secured to the collar; and whereby the tie-carrying portion may be utilized to carry various forms of ornaments such as rosettes, jewelry, ribbon, ornamental devices or other desirable substitutes for neckwear; also of such form that the necktie holder may be used with collars of the soft, folded, or standing varieties.

Another object isto construct the necktie holder component which is to be secured to the collar, of such material that it will be stiff yet sufficiently pliable and moistureproof, to conform to the shape of the collar, and to provide it with an attaching tab which will securely grip the collar button andsupport the tie outwardly from the collar and at the same time will be conformable to the movements of the body and will be adjustable for use with various heights of collar; and to make the tie-carrying sprmg'com ponent of resilient material other than metal. thus eliminating the rust, rattling and piercing the cloth of the collar which attends use of metal parts in this connection.

part of it so that the foundation will be pliable and springy; The fabric stiffening may be and preferably is of texture, and. surface composition such .as will make a" clean and easily washed covering for the base rubber, and embedded on both surfaces of the rubber it performs the double function of acting as a stiffening or reinforcing agent for the rubber and as a suitable finish for this part of the holder itself.

The base portion is tapered toward its outer extremities forming thinned out end portions 5, and gradually increases thickness towards the center to constitute a reinforced or thickened portion 6 disposed centrally of the body portion and extended down into the securing tab. This arrangement permits ready adjustment of the elastic body portion to the curvature and movement of the neck of the wearer, and. the utilization of rubber or likecomposition in the tabpera desired. gripping action of button holes 7 around a button 8,best shown in Fig. 3.. These holes in the tabs arranged in bulged out portion 9 is formed which acts as a support for a thin tie,when desired. holding it outwardly from the collar and bosom of. the shirt.

The body portion is provided with foldedover flaps or members 10 which form pockets 1 for the reception of the other component of the device. This comprises a carrying member 11 formed from somefiexible springmaterial such as celluloid or pressed, hardened rubber which s bowed, to conform to shape of the wearers neck.
