"wsrssnemsmekm o1; surroar.
Application filed April 20, 1920. Serial No. 375,328.
To all whom'it may concern Be it known that I, J osnri HENRI R ver, a: citizen of the United States, residing at lVoonsocket, in the county of Providence and State of'Rhode Island, have invented new'anduseful Improvements in Telephone Brackets or Supports,o'f which the followin'g-c'isa specification. p I
This ;1nve'nt1'on'relates to an improved and novel bracket'or support for what is com- 'monly-tefmed the deskstel'epho'ne, and it is designedto be attaclied' to 'the side wall of a desk, mm, or other "suitable and convenient fixture.
The-main obj'ect ofsthis invention is to, i provide; simple," durable; economical, novel and eflici'ent-meansifor 'supporting the recelver of the instrument, intended for use during a ,time when it is necessary to leave the telephone temporarily, before the conversation has been completed, or while waiting' the arrival of the desired party when some other person has answered the signal andfor various other reasons.
Further objects ofthe invention are to provide improved supporting means whereby thev instrument can be quickly and easilv removed fronfthe supportand used in the ordinary manner; to provide ;;additional convenient means for supporting the receiver when it is necessary-to call'anothe'r person to the phone or to leave. it for a few moments and to furnish means connected thereto for supporting the telephone directory.
The foregoing and such other objects as may. appear from the ensuing description are attained by the construction, combination, arrangement and location of the parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated by the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto, it being understood that slight changes in the precise form, proportions Figureo is a top plan view showingstillf another form of construction of'the lower fork intermediate. theupper fork and the,"
shelf. 1
Figure 6 illustratesanother stru'ction, while I modified con- I I F i ures and 8illustratestillotlrer'modt v;
fied orms.
K Similar numerals of reference reas-- pl oyed to designate like parts throughout 'Flgures l and 72 of the drawings.
I carrying out "this invention; vas il lu's tra ed, it will be seen that 1, indicates the bracket "members, which areifixedlv secured in any suitableor desirable manner to-the I wall or other stationarysupport2, and connected' to each of said/brackets ina station-' ary manner. is one end of-a rod 3. Adjustably secured upon this'rod 3 are an upper ou'twardly'extending fork 4, a lower outwardly extended shelf 5, and a lower outwardly ex tendedifork 6 The peripheral edge of the shelf 5 is providedwith ,an'u'p'ward extens1on forming a rim 7 ,1(a's shown in section in Fig, 1) the purpose of which is toprevent the base .ofrthetelephone 8 from slipping ofl the shelf'and thus permitting the instrument to fall. A collar 9 is securedin any suitablemanner around the column of s the instrument to assist *in holding it be tween 'the' arms of the upper forkr, which collar is not essential and may be dispensed; with if desired.
It will be perceived that the upper and lower extended forks 4. and 6, aswell as the shelf 5, are adjustablysecured to the rod 3, J by means of the screws 10, sothat the posig y tion of these members may be changed'and shifted on said rod as desired, and the rod may be so mounted and connected to'the brackets 1 as to allow these parts to be swung from left to right, carrying the hone which rovidesa qreat convenience under certain conditions.
Secured to the lowermost extending fork 6, in any suitable manner is a depending hook member 11, adapted to support a telephone directory at a convenient location, although if desired, said member 11 may be secured to the device at any point desired.
It will be seen that the device thus de scribed permits a support for a phoneand use of "said phone in the ordinary well known manner.
However, when occasion demands a party to leave the phone during a telephone conversation, for instance to call shelf and their appurtenances secured to the rod 3, and hence I have devised the modified constructions that appear in the drawings and referring to which:
In Figures 3 and 4-, the fork 4: may be secured to the wall 2 direct and hence elimination of the rod 8 is brought about. Of course it is to be understooc. that the fork 4 is used in lieu of the fork 6, also and that when said fork l is employed it is secured to the wall 2 by the integral portion As appears in F igure 5, the shelf 7 is secured directly to the wall 2 and in such case the fork 6 may be connected to the bracket 31 in a swinging manner by means of the rod 80.
In Figure 6, the shelf 7 is illustrated as connected directly to the wall by means of the member 21 and said shelf has a fork 6" formed integral on its peripheral edge.
In Figure 7 the shelf 7 rests on the arm 23 which in turn is secured directly to the wall by member'22. As appears in the drawing, the shelf is providedat its underside with a downwardly reaching arm 2e that e2;-
tends forwardly and terminates ina hook 25.
In Figure 8, 1 illustrate still another form of bracket in which the forks 4 and arm 29 are formed integral with the arm 40 that is secured directly to a supporting member.
it will be apparent that in the modified forms of the crevice, tl e same is very inexpensive to produce and contains the minimum amount of parts and hence is in some instance preferable to the device shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Having described my. invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Fat In telephone support the combination of wall brackets adapted to be secured to a wall in a removable manner and having apertures in their free ends, rod adapted to seat in the apertures and to be turned wit n respect to the brackets, an armadjustably secured to the rodvnear the upper end thereof and to turn'therewith and having an outer forked portion adaptedto receive and grip the staff of a telephone, an arm arranged at a point on therod slightly below the transverse center thereof and adjustably secured thereto and adapted to turn with the rod, a tray moiint'ed on the last named arm, an arm mounted beneaththe second I have hereunto set 'my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses. I
JOSEPH HENRI RIYET.
