citizen of the Unitei States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois. have invented certain new and usetful Improvements in Suppleniental ork Supports for Portable Sewing Machines, of which the following is afull clear, and exact specification.

This invention is concerned with supplemental work supports for portable sewing machines, heretofore confined and limited, to a portion of the top surface of the bed-plate of the sewing machine in a plane substan tially above the surface of the table upon which the sewing machine is placed for its operation. j p

The prime object of my invention broadly stated is a work support of unlimited area for portable sewing machines adapted to be detachably secured to the base of the machine. with its top surface maintained substantially in a plane parallel with that of the bed-plate of the machine.

A further object of my invention is to provide a portable sewing machine with a worksupport not only extending along the side of its bed-plate for a considerable distance, and forwardly beyond the work-supporting end thereof, but which also provides for an arm rest for the operator-during the operation of the machine.

Another object of my invention is to provide means by which the supplemental. work support may be conveniently attached to and detached from the bed-plate of a portable sewing machine in such a mannerthat it may be securely locked against longitudinal and lateral movement without the aid oftightening screws or other devices requiring -manipulation for actuating .them towards and from their locking position.

In other words, my mvention provides a work-supportingtable and locking devices firmly secured thereto adapted to be secured to the base of a portable sewing machine without any change in the construction of such base before provided wholly for the purpose of securing and locking in its operative position the detachable cover commonly accompanying such machines.

Forthe purposes of relieving the locking devices of the table from strains tending to bend or break them, the table is provided,

Furthermore, it is also apparent that my invention is not limited to such a table formed in one piece, and that, for the purposes of convenience in shipping and storage, it may be formed oi a number of detachable or else hinged sections foldable one upon the other.

A detachable supplemental work support for a portable sewing machine, provided with edges opposing one end edge and the side edges of the bed-plate of the machine, an arm secured to said support and projecting: to overlapping engagement with the adjacent surface of the bed-plate of the machine, a vertical leg for said support located in the vicinity of the free end of and adapted to maintain said support with its operating surface in a plane substantially that of the working surface of the bed-plate.

3. A detachablesupplemental work sup port for a portable sewing machine, provided with an opening towards one end thereof, a plate secured to the opposing side walls of said opening, provided with a laterally extending Z-shaped member, the free end of which is adapted to be projected into recesses normally adjacent the edges of the bed of: the machine, provided with an overhanging plate and whereby on swinging, the supplemental support to its operative position the under-surface ot said overhanging plate is engaged by the free end of said Z-shaped member.
