CLOTH-GUIDE FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROSA D. Srocnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado City, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Guides for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
his invention relates to guides and more particularly to cloth guides for sewing machines.
The object of the invention is to provide a guide which will insure an even and umform seam in joining two pieces of cloth or in hemming and to provide a device of this character which will be simple and efficient and which may be cheaply constructed.
A still further and more important object of the invention is to provide a guide with means to prevent the cloth or fabric being sewed from riding up on the guide and thereby making an uneven seam.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this applica tion, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 represents the cloth plate of the machine and 2 the guide which comprises a longitudinal arm 3 and a cross head 4 which is bent up on the arm and then downwardly Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 2, 1911.
Patented J une 3, 191 3.
Serial No. 663,537.
to form a guiding side 5 which is in a plane with the arm 3. The arm 3 is provided with a slot 6 as is usual to receive the set screw 7 for adj ustably mounting the guide upon the cloth plate.
The guiding side is provided with a longitudinal extension 8 which is raised above the side as shown in Fig. 2 so as to permit the cloth to pass under the same. This extension holds the cloth down upon the plate and prevents its riding up upon the guide and thereby avoids uneven seaming of the goods.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A cloth guide constructed of a single sheet of metal and comprising a slotted adjustable shank, an upwardly bowed head formed on the end of said shank and extending at right-angles thereto in opposite directions from the shank, said head having the edge of its guiding side in a plane with the bottom surface of the shank and a longitudinal extension struck up from the guiding side in the middle of the head and raised above the plane of the shank, said extension being longitudinally alined with the shank and adapted to prevent the cloth from riding up upon the head.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
