SEWING-MACHINE TABLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUISA BURNHAM HENDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, New York, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machine Tables, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved table support, to effect a flush work plate for a sewing machine of that type in which the plate and sewing head are mounted upon a support rigid therewith and beneath the plate.

In carrying out this invention I provide a support beneath the table top, to which the pedestal of the machine sewing head may be detachably secured and I so cut out the table top that it may fit the contour of the machine on the horizontal plane of its work plate. I prefer to place the sewing head in place from the top of the table, to accomplish which purpose I provide a portion of the table top removable so that it may be inserted after the machine has been slid into place. This removable part also permits the operator to readily get at stitch changing or other mechanism often located beneath the surface of the work plate. Additional removable plates may be provided if desired for access to thread or thread take up wheels. While the support for the sewing head may be of any form below the' table top, I prefer to provide it in the guise of a box below,the top and to allow the chief removable plate to rest upon it for stability.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan view of a machine table and machine in part according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a section on line 22 Fig. 1.

As shown in the drawings, the machine M is the well known Wilcox & Gibbs automatic having a work plate P, wheel W, and a take-up wheel guard 11, and stitch changing lever 10 below the plate P. A winged bolt B being provided for securing the pedestal of the machine in place.

According to this invention I attach

A plate 1 may be inserted at the left of the work plate P and be provided with a finger hole 8 as shown. The wood of the table top may be cut out as indicated in dotted lines to retain the plate 1.

While I have shown the removable section of the top to be in front, this is not essential as it might be otherwise placed so long as an opening is left in the machine.

I claim as my invention: 1. A sewing machine, in combination with a table top support below the table top, a pedestal for the sewing machine below its work plate adapted to entirely support said machine, said pedestal being secured to said rigid support.

2. A sewing machine head, a work plate and a pedestal below the work plate, in combination with a table top, a support for the pedestal below the table top, said table top having an opening shaped substantially according to the contour of the machine on a plane with its work plate, a portion of the table top on the edge of the opening thus formed being removable.

3. A sewing machine head, a work plate and a pedestal below the work plate, in combination with a table top, a support for the pedestal below the table top, said table top having an opening shaped substantially according to the contour of the machine on a plane with its work plate, a portion of the table top on the edge of the opening thus formed being removable, and supports below the table top for said removable portion.

4. A sewing machine head, a work plate and a pedestal below the Work plate, in combination with a table top, a support for the pedestal below the table top, said table top having an opening shaped substantially according to the contour of the machine on a plane with its work plate, said support being in the form of a box.
