DENTAL ARTIGULATOR.
Application filed May as,
T 0 all whom it'mag concern:
Be it known that I, llownnn L. GHOTT, a citizen of the vUnited States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Articulators, of which the following is a specification. A
This invention relates to dental articulators, and has for its objectthe provision of a device of this cnaracter comprising frames pivotally connected together so as to be capable of lateral and "ertical movement with respect to each other.
Another object of the invention is to provide adjustable'means for regulating clearance between the frames, and to guide same during lateral movement thereof.
Still another object of the invention is to provide means for maintaining said guiding and regulating means in close contact during lateral movement of the frames with respect to each other.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, i
Fig. 1, is a top plan view of the invention, Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the invention, Fig. 3, is a detail view partly in section on line 3-3 of Fig. 4,
Fig. 1, is a section on line iv-4 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 5, is a sectional view partly in elevation on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
The invention comprises a lower frame 10 having apertures 11 therein for the purpose of affixing a cast of a lower jaw thereto. The frame 10 is provided with upright pieces 12, such pieces being preferably connected adjacent their upper ends by means of a cross piece 13, which cross piece is preferably upwardly and outwardly curved, as shown, the portion thereof intermediate its ends preferably being inclined as shown at 14. The uprights 12 preferably have broadened extremities 15, which areprovided with inclined depressions 16 substantially in a plane parallel tothe inclined portion 1& of the cross piece 13, of the depressions 16 being formed. into hooks 17. The various features of the exrelated depression the inner ends 1922.. Serial no. 564,449.
,A frame 18, preferably having an adjustable extension 18 thereon, is pivotally mounted on the extremities 15 by means of members 19, which areprovided with depending levers 20 as shown,
resting in the inclined depressions 16, and held therein by means of the members 19 being detachably a spring 20, preferably secured to the cross piece 13, in such manner that the ends there-' of rest against the members 19. The frame 18 is also provided with an extension 21 which is adapted to engage an adjustable guide member 22 tapped through the inclined portion 14: of the cross piece 13, the member 22 having a head 23 on it-s lower end upon I The guide member 22 is also provided with a lock nut24c, if desired.
Thus it will be seen that by adjusting the member 22 clearance between the frames 10 and 18 can be nicely regulated, and in order which the extension 21 engages.
to impart lateral and vertical movement to c the frame 18, one of the members 19 is moved along the inclined surface of the 16 against the pressure of the spring 20 by means of the lever 20, the
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect,- this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the splrit of the" invention. I
therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A dental articulator comprising a base frame having uprights thereon; there being inclined depressions in said'uprights; a cross piece connecting said uprights and having av portion thereof intermediate its ends in clined in a plane substantially parallel With the incline of said depressions; adjustable guide means tapped through said inclined portion; a second frame having members pivotally and slidably mounted in said depressions; an extension on said second frame adapted to slidably engage said adjustable guide means. during lateral movement or said second frame in said depressions; and levers on said members for operating said second frame and adapted to hold said extension in close engagement with said adjustable guide means during lateral movement of said second frame.
2. A dental articulator comprising a base member having uprights thereon, there being inclined depressions in said uprights; a cross piece connecting said uprights and having a portion intermediate the ends thereofbeing inclined in a plane substantially parallel to said inclined depressions; a screw tapped through said inclined portion having its head disposed therebeneath; a second frame having members mounted in said depressions for pivotal and lateral movement therein; an extension on said second frame adapted to slidably engage the head of said screw; and levers on said members adapted to operate said second frame and to hold said exten-
