Anobject of' the invention isto provide an improved garment rack or holder which will include a plurality of swingable arms on which garmentsupporting clips are supported in spaced rela tion.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved garment rack or holder which will be highly efiicient in operation and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.

Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a back plate I which may be secured to wall by means of screws or fasteners extending through the positioning apertures 2 and 3 extending through said plate adjacent the top and bottom thereof. Secured to the forward surface of the back plate I, are the integrally formed spaced pairs of vertically aligned forwardly extending arms 4 and 5, which are formed with spaced pivot points 6 and l on their inner surfaces adjacent their outer ends. The clips or arms 4 extend outward from the plate I further than the arms 5, for reasons hereinafter described.

Supporting arms 8 and 9, which are substantially square in cross-section, have formed in their inner ends the opposed bearing recesses Ill and II, in which the pivot points 5 and l are adapted to seat, for permitting said arms 8 and 9 to swing or pivot on a horizontal plane. Spaced seats l2 and I3 are formed in the upper surfaces of the arms 8 and 5 at their inner and outer ends, and are adapted to adjustably support the 2 Claims. (CtzZilrJfll:

The sets of seats in the arms 8, 9, and M are arranged in staggered relation.

The garment supporting clips are generally designated by the reference numeral I7, and are adapted to be slid along the several supporting arms to be received in the desired seats formed in the top surfaces thereof.

The clips I! are inverted U-shape in crosssection and are formed with middle transverse sections or portions it having depending spaced arms l9 and 29, the rear arms I9 extending downwardly further than the front arms 29. Jaw members 3! supporting felt pads 21 are disposed at the lower ends of the rear arms l9, and transverse elongated slots 22 are formed through the front arms 29. The arms 23 are bent adiacent their lower extremities as at 24 to form the jaw members 25 on which the felt pads 2| are supported for cooperation with the arm members and'felt pads 2|.

Spaced inwardly directed ears 26 and 2! are formed respectively on the arms [9 and 23, and have aligned apertures in which the pins 28 are mounted to support the jaw tensioning coil springs 29. The arms 23 are bent outwardly to extend through the transverse elongated slots 22, and terminate in the downwardly extending finger engaging jaw operating terminal ends 30, whereby when said ends 36 are pushed inwardly, the' jaw members will be separated so that garments may be supported therebetween. When the ends 38 are disengaged, the springs 29 will automatically close the pivoted jaw members on the garw ments.

From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that a stationary supporting arm and two pivoted supporting arms are provided on the back plate, and each arm is provided with the spaced garment supporting clips, just described, which are Slidably and adjustably supported upon said arms. The off-set arrangement of the supporting arms is such that a garment may be supported in open position upon the said arms, and will be arranged to lie adjacent to each other, due to the stepped relation of the said arms.

While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A garment supporting rack comprising a back plate with arms carried thereby, each of said arms having notches in the upper edges thereof, garment supporting clips removably disposed in said notches, each clip comprising a substantially U-shaped member having a rear leg forming a fixed jaw, a front leg and a middle portion connected to said legs, said front leg having an opening therein, a movable jaw, means pivoting said movable jaw to said fixed jaw, an operating member fixed to said movable jaw and passed through said opening to thereby prevent separation of said clip from the arm on which it is disposed, and said middle portion being vertically removably located in a selected one of said notches.
