`This inventionV relates to garment hangers or supporting means and more particularly to a device constructedffor use in supporting trousers or the like. 1

Another object of this invention is to provide a double garment hanger which can be secured in a fixed position on a wall or other support and will securely hold a pair of trousers or, if desired, may hold each leg of the trousers separately.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device of this kindwhich is exceedingly'simple in construction sothat it may be manufactured at a relatively small cost while at the same time providing a practical hanger or supporting means forthe article.

The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:-

Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally a bracket or member which is adapted to be secured as by attaching members 13 to a wall or support 1l. The bracket member 10 has secured on each side thereof an outstanding arm 12 and 14, the arms 12 and 14 being secured to the lower portion of the plate member 10 as by securing members 15 in the form of nails, screws or the like.

A bracing means, generally designated as 16, is secured in the upper portion of the plate 10 and is also secured to the outstanding arms 12 and 14 at a point outwardly of the inner ends of the arms. In practice, this bracing member 16 is constructed from a piece of relatively heavy wire having arms 17 connected together at their lower ends by means of a bar 18, which extends through the arms 12 and 14 lat a point forwardly 50 of the rear ends of these arms. The upper ends of the arms 17 are bent inwardly in opposed relation to each other, as at 19, and are disposed in holes provided in the opposite edges of the plate for supporting the member 10.

A movable spring pressed clamping member cent the arm 14, and these two clamping members 20 and 21 are held yieldablyagainst the inner faces of the arms 12 and 14 by means of an expanding spring 22, which engages in annular sockets 23 and 24 provided in the clamping members l2 and 21, resp-ectively.

The inner ends of the movable clamping members 20 and 21 are each provided with an elongated slot 25, whichopens throughvthe rear end of each clamping member 21, and a pin 26 extends vertically through theV clampingv members 20 and 21 in a manner to hold the clamping members against movement longitudinally of the arms or clamping members 12 and 14. The pin 26 engages'on the rear side of the connecting bar 18. A pin 27 extends between the two arms 12 and 14 at a point rearwardly from the Vpins 26 and the split portion 25 of the clamping members 20 and 21 engages the bar or pin 27, which bar or pin 27 coacts with the connecting member 18 in holding the clamping members 20 and 21 against rotation or swinging movement while permitting sliding movement of these members under the action of the spring 22.

The fixed jaw or clamping member 12 is provided at a point intermediate the ends thereof with a recessed or cut out portion 28, and the complementary or movable jaw 20 is also provided with a confronting recess 29. The forward end of the iiXed jaw member 12 is also beveled or inclined, as at 30, and the forward end of the movable jaw member 20is also beveled or inclined, as at 31. The fixed jaw member 14 also has a recessed or cut out portion 32 at a point intermediate the ends thereof, and the movable jaw 21 has a complementary cut out portion 33 confronting the cut out portion 32. The forward end of the clamping member 14 is beveled or inclined, as at 34, and the forward end of the movable jaw 2l is beveled or. inclined, as at 35, the inclined front edge portions 30 and 3l, and 34 and 35 constituting a means to facilitate the sliding of the legs of the trousers between the clamping members.

The recessed portions 28 and 29 of one of the trouser holding members are adapted to receive the central seam of a pair of trousers Vso that the remaining portions of the clamping members will tightly engage the trousers on the opposite sides of the seam.

It is, of course, understood that various changesV and -modications may be made in thefdetails of construction and design of the above specically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the yspirit thereof, such changes and modiiications being restricted only bythe scope'of the following claims. f

What is claimedis:- y

1. A hanger as setforth, comprising a pair of fixed clamping members disposed in spaced relation with each other, a base, means for securing the clamping members to the opposite edges of the base, a bracing member engaging the clamping members and the base, a pair of spring pressed movable clamping members disposed between said Xed clamping members and movable in opposite directions, and means'carried by said Y bracing member and said rst clamping members forrslidably mounting said movable clamp- The two legs of a pair of trousersV fixed clamping members disposed in spaced relation to each other, a vertically disposed base positioned between the members, means for secur- Y ing the inner ends of the clamping members to the opposite edges of the base, a bracing member engaging the base and the members outwardly of the inner ends thereof to hold the clamping meme bers at substantially a right angle to the base, a pair of movable clamping members disposed between said xed clamping members, a spring interposed' between said movable clamping members and constantly urging said movable clamping members toward said fixed clamping members, and means for slidably mounting said movable clamping members between said Xed clamping members. 4

A hanger as set forth, comprising a pair of 'iixed clamping members disposed in spaced relation to each other, a base, means for securing the clamping members to the base at substantially a right angle Vto the base, a bracing member engaging the base and the clamping members outal wardly-of the inner ends thereof, a pair of movable clampingl members disposed between said xed clamping members, a spring interposed between said movable clamping members and constantly'urging said movable clamping members toward said fixed clamping members, said movable clamping members eachhaving an elongated slot in the inner end thereof, ahorizontally disposed bar integral with said bracing member and engaging in the outer end portion of said slot, a vertically disposed pin disposed in said movable clamping member rearwardly of said bar, and a horizontally disposed bar engaging said fixed clamping members and.V disposed rearwardly of said iirst bar and engaging in the slot of the movable clamping members to hold said movable clamping members in horizontal position.
