trating the key operated cam to operate the bolt; and
Fig. 7 is a sectional diagrammatic detail view illustrating the bolt operating' device.
ils herein embodied7 my invention consists ot a casing' 8 supporting; a bolt 9 which `is slidable transversely of the casing 8. rlhe portion 10 oit the bolt which projects beyond the casing is provided with openings, each opening consisting of a slot 11 and passages 12.I the diameter ot the passages exceeding the width of the slots. The openings in the bolt are designed to receive studs 13 carried by a striker plate 1li, the striker plate being; secured to the Jframe 15 for the door 16. lilach stud 13 consists ot a shank i7 having a head 18. the diamleter of the heads exceeding; the width ot the shan rs. rlhe passages 12 in the bolt portion 10 will be slightly larger than the hea-ds 18 ot the studs, so that said heads will pass through same. rEhe width ot slots 11 will be such as `to receive the Shanks 17 ot the studs. When the door is in unlocked condition and closed. the studs 13 will be located within passages 12. indicated in Flips. l: hence. the door can be opened. To lock the door, the bolt will be operated to cause shanks 17 to enter slots 11. after which the door cannot be opened. as the heads 18 of the studs will not pass through slots 11. The bolt 9 is provided with guidewavs 19 to receive the adjacent portions 2O of the end wall of the casing 8. By this means the bolt is slidablv supported by the casing.
To prevent the door from being;` forced upwardly. when locked. sufiicientlv to cause heads 18 ot the studs to aline with passages 12., l provide the member 21 of the striker plate 14 with a recess 22 to receive a lug 23 carried (in this instance)r bv the back or cover-plate 24. tor the casing: ,8. When the door is closed. lug'l?, will enter recess 22 and atter the door is locked the engagement ot the lugy and recess will prevent the door trom being raised, To operate the bolt 9.v l provide (in this instance) two independently operable devices. one a rcam 25 onerable by a-kev from the outside of the door throufrh the agency ot a pin cylinder lock 26. said cylinder being; connected to cam 25y by a plate 27. and the other an arm 28 operable b v a knob 29 carried `bv casing 8. the casing` being located on the inside' of the door. To
. by, a casing, a. bolt carried by the casing engaging said projections, a cover plate for the casing, and means carried by the coverplate to engage the striker plate indepenrt ently of the engagement ot the bolt and pro jections on the cover plate.
