Be it known that I, MICHAEL HENRY MG- GUIRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clifford, in the county of Lapeer and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Portable Bathtub with Heating Appliance, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to improvements in that type of portable bath tubs that are equipped with attached appliances for he'ating the water and primarily my inve-ntion seeks to provide an improved portable ba'th tub of the Character stated of a simple and inexpensive construction that can be easily moved about and which effectively serves its intended purposes.

Another object of the invention is to provide a bath tub with oil burner attachments therefor so arrangecl that theburner vcan be quickly and conveniently put into or out of action and in which the'burner devices are so designed that they can readily be mounted on the tub supporting framing in such manner that they are held out of view when assembled in connection with the tub, and which include a peculiarly constructed heating surface with which the water, that is placed within the tub, is kept in constant circulation.

In its more subordinate features, my invention embodies in a bath tub construction of the general type mentioned, the peculiar combination and novel arrangement of parts, fully set 'forth in the following detailed description, specifically set out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

w In carrying out my invention I provide a bathtub of the conventional shape and finished in the usual way; In the present showing the tub body proper is preferably formed as a part of' l(or it may be attached to) a housing that surrounds the tub body, in the manner best shown in Figures 3 and 4.

The housing extends beyond the front and rear ends of the tub body to provide chambers, the forward one 2 of which is adapted for receiving therein an oil reservoir 3, presently again referred to, and whose other chamber 4 constitutes a heating compartment, since it is within the said compartment 4 that the water heating means, presently fully eXplained, are located.

The bottom of thel housing which surrounds the tub 1 is open and to facilitate the ready moving of the tub in place for use or back out of the way, the said housing is mounted on casters 5-5, as shown.

At the rear end of the housing is a door 6 for affording ready access to the burner for lighting and turning off the same, when necessary.

The water heating means, beforegenerally referred to.V comprises afiat hollow casting 7 having a solid and apertured front edge 70 which, whenV the parts are operatively assembled, is set closely against the acent tub end with the apertures thereof in register with a pair of water passages'10 -10 onl the said rear end of the tub and to provide for making a tight` joint of the hollow casting 7 against the tub the said casting has Vertical top and bottom fianges 71-72 for bolting the said casting 7 to the tub body.

At the rear or outer end, the hollow casting 7 has a pair of passages 73-73 to which is coupled, in any well known way, thel ends 80-80 of a combination water circulating and drain pipe 8.

The pipe 8, when the parts are assembled, passes under and in the direction of .the length of the tub and through a short lateral connection 81, it is joined with thegdrainl 11 of the tub.

From the connection 81, the pipe 8 serves as la drain pipe since it extends forwardly through the front end of the tub housing and has its projecting end fitted with a drain faucet 82, as shown.

The walls of the compartment, in which the heating devices are located, are lined with asbestos, as at 14.

To keep the bather from the heated part of the tub, a false back 15 is located in the rear end of the tub and to provide for the full benefit of the heated end of the. tub the said false back 15 is apertured for the free circulation of the tub water therethrough.

A copper tube 19 connects With the said oil reservoir 3, passes down and back under the tub and to the burner 20, which latter may be of any approved construction, and includes, as

shown, a needle valve 21, the latter beingv positioned for being readily manipulated, when the door 6 is opened.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection With the drawings, the complete construction, the mannerbf use and the advantages of my invention Will be readily apparent to those familiar With the handling and making of portable bath tubs.

It Will be noticed that after the tub is filled to the desired level, by starting,r up the heating appliance, the Water, as it becomes heated, begins to circulate through the hollow casting or pipe 7 and continues to circulate under a uniform temperature, in the direction indicated by the arrows on the drawing so long as the heating devices are in action.

Since the back wall of the tub is constantly kept hot by heat radiation from the burner, it follows that the said back Wall materially assists in heating the Water to the desired temperature, it being understood that danger of burning the bather is practically elim'inated by the false back 15. The open bottom housing provides for ample air circulation around the underside of the tub and for feeding the burner.

What I claim is:

1. A portable bath tub comprising a tub body, an open bottom housing that surrounds the sides and ends of the said body, the said housing having a compartment at one end With means for supporting an oil reservoir, a compartment at the other end, oil burner devices located in the said other end, a feed pipe connecting the said burner devices and the oil reservoir, the burner devices including a control valve, the end of the housing adjacent the heater having an opening for providing access to the burner, a Water heating receptacle cooperative With the heater and a pipe connection that joins thesaid receptacle and the bottom of the tub, the said receptacle having an apertured end, and means for holding the said apertured end in communication With the inside of the rear end of the tub.

2. In a bath tub of the character described, an open bottom housing, a tub body disposed Within the housing With its upper edge fiush With the surrounding top edge of the housing, fuel oil holding means Within the housing at one end thereof, a fuel oil burner holding appliance located in the other end of the housing, a feed pipe that connects the oil holder andthe heating appliance, the said heating appliance including a fuel feed valve controlled burner a water circulating means comprising a hollow casting in communication at one end With the interior of the back end of the tub body, a water circulating pipe connected With the other end of the hollow casting, the said pipe extending under the tub, a lateral connecting the pipe and the drain outlet of the tub1 the hollow casting being located over the fuel oil burner, the outlet end of the water circulating pipe extending` through the Wall of the housing` and provided With a drain faucet.

3. As a new article, a portable bath tub With attached heating appliances, comprising an open bottom housing, a tub body having a drain outlet located Within the said housing with its surrounding upper edge flush With the upper edge of the housing, the housing being extended at its opposite ends beyond the adjacent ends .of the tub body Whereby to form front and rear end compartments, a fuel oil reservoir sustained in the front housing compartment, heating appliances located in the rear housing compartment, the said appliances including a fuel controlled oil burner, a feed pipe connecting the oil reservoir and the said burner, the housing having provisions for a free access to the burner devices, a hollow Water holder located over the burner, said holder having one edge open, means for holding the said open edge in tight communication through the back Wall of the tub With the interior of the tub, a false back at the rear end of the tub for preventing contact With the back Wall of the tub When using the same, a circulating pipe which communicates With and passes down from the hollow water holder and extends lengthvvise under the tub body and a lateral connecting the said pipe With the drain outlet of the tub, said pipe having its end extended through the front end of the housing and provided With a drain faucet.
