BOOKBINDING.
Application filed March 20, 1920. Serial No. 367,547.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD K. ROBIN- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belmont, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bookbinding.
The object of my invention is to provide for the binding of books, pamphlets or other similar material in such a manner that pages of tracing paper may be placed conveniently over printed pages of pictures, maps, diagrams or designs.
In a book bound in accordance with my invention there may be combined with a printed book or pamphlet sheets of tracing paper or writing paper so that they may be folded over the pages of the book or pamphlet for the purpose of tracing pictures,
maps, diagrams or designs or for making original drawings or for writing notes.
In the accompanying drawing is shown a book bound in accordance with my invention. A cover of paper, cloth or other suitable material is shown by 6, e e Bound or attached along the line a b is one set of pages f 7, which can be turned to the left 1 or to the right. Bound or attached along the line 0 d is another set of pages g, g 9 which can also be turned to the left or to the right. The binding may be done by means of thread, wire or any other common means of permanent attachment to a book cover, or the sets of pages may be bound separate from the cover and attached to the cover by any temporary means, such as an envelope pocket into which a strip is inserted to hold the pages in position.
For the purpose of map drawing and study, picture tracing, etc., the set of pages 9 g may be pages of tracing paper bound or attached to the cover at 0 d. Bound or attached at a b may be printed pages, text being on the left'hand pages and printed maps, pictures or the like on right hand pages. A page of the tracing paper 9 may thus be laid over the printed map or picture in the manner shown in the drawing, and the user of the device can then make his own drawing on the tracing paper. In map study additional features may be called for by directions on the printed page. After one tracing page is thus used it may be turned to the right, at 9 and another I brought up from the position g under the pages f and placedin position over any desired page whereupon this new tracing page is ready for use. 7 c

A book embodying my invention is scarcely larger than an ordinary book of. the same size paper page, except for a slight additional width and the thickness of the cover along a line such that any page of,
the tracing paper can be superimposed over any page of the matter to be traced.
