Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,004, dated November 25, 1873; application filed April 3, 1673.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID MUzzEY, of St. Albans, in the county of Franklin and in the State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gar-Axle Box; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of 'reference marked thereon, making a part of this speciiication.

The nature of my invention consists in constructing the hangers of a car-axle box With concave interiors7 and the axle-box itself globeshaped, as hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art, to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure 1 is a side view of a car-truck, showing one of the boxes and hangers in transverse Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical, and Fig. 3 a horizontal, section of the same.

A represents a part of a car-truck frame, to which the hangers B B are iirmly secured in any suitable manner. The sides of each hanger B are made concave on the inside, as shown in Fig. 3, and the box C, which is placed therein, is globe-shaped, fitting within the hanger, and having room to o'scillate horizontally. This allows the journal-block to fit the journal freely on any curved or bent axle, as the box Will turn in the hanger sufficiently to accommodate such curve or bend. l) represents the journal-block, havinga top chamber, a, passage b, and channel d.
