To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY C. Jones, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and 5 State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful improvements in Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cleaning devices and pertains more especially to a device which is held in and manipulated by the hand of the user in performing the cleaning operation upon the other hand.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a hand cleaning device which is particularly adapted for the cleaning of gloves, the glove being placed on one hand while the device saturated with gasoline or other cleansing solution is manipulated with the other hand to clean the glove.

The invention further aims to provide a device of this character which can be economically produced and marketed, which is simple in construction and which can be easily and quickly manufactured.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this type wherein the rubbing element is composed of coarse yarn or the like so that the user can renew the rubbing surface upon wear of the same, either by applying a completely new surface or by superimposing or winding a fresh layer or layers upon the worn surface.

spective ends. Coarse yarn 5 is wound about the shank in as many layers as desired in order to provide a cylindrical rubbing surface. The shoulders 3 and 4: abut the ends of the layers of the yarn and hold the latter from movement lengthwise of the shank to thereby prevent the yarn from being disengaged from the shank.

The shank and thereby the rubbing surface is of quite a little length so as to enable the device to be given strokes of considerable length in order to expedite the cleaning operation.

In use of the invention, the rubbing surface is first dipped into or otherwise saturated with a suitable cleansing solution or compound, such as liquid soap, gasoline or other cleansing agent, whereupon the handle is grasped in one hand and the saturated yarn or rubbing surface is rubbed against the other hand to clean same, or against a glove to be cleaned and which is placed on said other hand, or against any other object to be cleaned.

Ubviously, the user, upon wear of the rubbing surface, may apply a new one by winding a fresh layer of yarn over and upon the old or worn one, or may remove the worn surface completely and apply the new one thereto.

The device is not only inexpensive as to the initial production, but also as to upkeep in renewing the rubbing surface. For this purpose cord strands or cheap coarse yarn can be used. and since the rubbing surface is cylindrical, it will be seen that the entire circular periphery of same may be used and throughout the length of the surface.

The outer end 6 of the shank is preferably flat so that the body can stand on end. The shoulder t is more in the nature of an annular bead which, with shoulder 8, project beyond the peripheral rubbing surface to not only protect the latter but also serve as end stops.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1.
