Description

A. H. DEAN.
Automatic Toys. No, 144,892. Patented Now-25.1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT H. DEAN, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
:MPRovEMENT IN AUTOMATIC Tovs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,892, dated November 25,1873; application filed February 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT H. DEAN, of
' Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented a Toy See-Saw, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists, first, in the attachment to the balance of a slotted arm worked by a clock-movement, and in the use of doublejointed metallic legs to the images to assist in changing the motion of the lever.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view, in elevation, of the toy.
A A is the frame or standards, partly inclosing the clock-movement, and forming a support for the lever-fulcrum a; B, balance; C, image; b, slotted arm. The frame A I construct of thin wood, for side pieces, and unite balance B. On the outer ends of this balance the images C are secured. Io assist in chang ing the direction of the balance I make the legs double-jointed, and of greater comparative Weight. The upper portion of the legs is set at an angle, and so secured that when the lower portion strikes the table it will operate as a spring and give the balance an upward motion. The clock-movement is Wound up in the usual way.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination with the standards A, the pivoted balance B carrying the toy figures C at each end, and provided with the slotted guide piece b for the reception of a crank-arm operated by clock-work, substantially as described.
2. In combination withthe subject-matter of the preceding claim, the toy figures C, provided with the loosely-jointed metallic legs, as and for the purpose speciiied.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specication before two subscribingwitnesses.
Witnesses A. SKAATs, GEO. B. CoWLEs.
ALBERT I-I. DEAN.
