Be it known that LELIJAH O. BRACKETT, oi Dedham, in the county of Norfolk, and Stateof Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Automatic or Toy Dancer; and I do hereby declare the same to .be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which-- Figure 1 is a sectional side view of it with its operative mechanism- Figure 2 is a top view of such mechanism. I
In such drawings, A denotes the figure of a man, the legs of which-should be loosely'jointed at the knees and hips, so as to enable them to readily swing and bend back and forth when the figure is vibrated vertically. The body of the figure is attached to one end of a wire or spring, B, going through the upper part of a lever, C, which extends upward from a box, The other end of the spring or Wire 13 is fixed in a post, E, erected on the box. Within and extending across the box and against the leverC, (whose fulcrum is shown at a,) is a prism, F, that is mounted on a shaft, G, which goes lengthwise through the prism, has hearings in the box, and is provided with a crank, H, by which it may be put in revolution so. as to revolve the prism. While the prism is being so revolved, it, by its action against the lever, will set it in vibration, so as to vibrate the spring and cause the automaton .to dance on the top of the box. There extend over and on the prism two or any other suit.- able number of wires, I I, one end of each being fastened to the box. These wires project over a hell or sonorous helix, K, fixed in the box. During each revolution of the prism it will vibrate the wires and cause them to strike upon and sound the bell or helix, and thereby make noise or beats to correspond with the steps, of the dancerp i What I claim as my invention is-- g The combination for effecting the motions of the automaton or dancer, the same consisting of the spring,
. the lever, and theprism, arranged together and with the dancer in manner and to operate as described.
And in combination with the spring, the lever, and the prism, arranged together, and with the automaton as explained, I claim one or more wires or springs I I, and a. sonorous helix, K, arranged within the box, and so as to be operated by the prism, in manner and under circumstances as specified.
