Description

tnted 55mm ELIJAH MELTON, OF FLEMINGSBURG, KENTUCKY.
Letters Patent No. 104,977, dated July 5, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN MECHANICAL MOVEMENTS.
The Scheule referred to in these Letters'Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it mag/*concern Be vit known that I, ELUAH MELTON, of' Flemingsburg, iu the county ot' Fleming and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and improved Mechanical Movement; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear-,and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference heing had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a'plan view, and
Figure 2, a side elevation.
This invention consists in an apparatus for communicating motion from a motor-shaft to a driving-shaft through the agency of au intermediate system of leverage, instead of by direct circumferential contact of the wheels.
In the drawing- A is a wheel, placed on the motor-shaft A.
B is the driving-shaft, hearing a fly, B', on one end, and atoothed pinion, 11, at the other end.
C is the supporting frame-work, which sustains, in
addition to the shaft A' and the shaft B, two shafts, C C', additional to the latter one at each side of it, at equal intervals, and in the same'horizontal plane.
The shafts O C bear pinions, c c', which gear with the pinion b.
D is a lever, having its fulcrum in a standard, D,
vertically over the cent-ral shaft B, and just out ,of the vertical plane of the pinions b c c'.
The lever is joined by arod, d, with a pin projecting from the wheel A at a point of the latter not centrai.
'ters Patent, is4
The wheel A, pinions b c c', connecting-rods d ll d",
and lever D, combined and arranged substantially as described.
To the above specification of my improvement I have set my hand this 28th day of October, 1869.
Witnesses: ELIJAH MELTON.
