Application filed December a, 1919. Serial at. 848,847.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL J osnr GnAnr, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Safet Razors and Hair Trimmers, of which the ollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to a combination safety razor and hair trimmer and has for its object. to provide a device which may be adjusted for use as a safety razor, or ad usted for use as a hair trimmer.
, A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this class which will be simle in construction, easily and readily adusted for the use desired, consisting of a minimum nuniber of parts and prove highly efiicient for the purposes intended.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists'in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and finally pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
Referring to the accompanying-drawings forming a part of this specification wherein like characters of reference denote'similar 7 parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1, is a front elevation of a combination safety razor and hair trimmer constructed in accordance with my invention, the blade being shown as adjusted to a position for shaving purposes.
' Fig. 2, is a view similar to Fig. 1, with the razor blade and blade holder adjusted to a position upon the guard plate for use as ahair trimmer.
Fig. 3, is an end'elevation of the device with the razor blade adjusted to a position for shaving purposes,
Fig. 4, is a view similar to Fig. 3, with the razor blade and blade holder adjusted to a position upon the guard plate for use as "a hair trimmer.
Fig. 5, is a rear elevation of the device edge of the guard platel is provided with anear 4 having an opening 5. The ear 4 is bent at a right an 1e to the'guard plate 1 and 1n an op osite direction to the angular extremity 3 o fin er 2.
6 indicates a s idable razor blade holder I plate. The plate 6 is provided at each end with a plur ity of hooked guide fingers 7. The holder plate 6 is further provided with a plurality of depressed bosses, or protuberblade 9 is provided with a plurality of openings 12 for the protuberant parts 8 toen'gage in and blade 9 w1th relation to the holder plate 6.
roperly' position the reversible 7 I 13 indicates a suitable" screw-threaded I member which is suitabl fixed at one end to the holder plate 6..
member passes through the opening'5, of
'. he screw-threaded the ear 4,.of' the guard plate 1, and-is provided with a gauge nut 14 which engages the inner face of the ear 4 and with a lock-nut 15 which engages'the outer face of the ear 4.
16 indicates a suitable handle which is suitably .-fixed at one endto the back ofthe guard plate 1 near the upper'edge thereof and the handle extends from the guard plate 1,-prefe'rably, although not necessarily, in" parallel relation with the bent extremities 3 of'the guard fingers 2, as clearly shown in is first positioned upon the inner face of the slidable holder plate 6 in such a manner that the protuberant parts designated 8 engage in the openings 12 of the blade 9. After this operation the holder plate 6' and blade 9 are slid into position upon the maid late 1, in such a manner that the bla e 9 is eld in a guided position between the holderplate 6' and the guard plate 1, as clearly shown in Fig. 6. As the holder, plate 6 and blade 9 are slid into operative position upon the guard plate 1, it will be observed that the screw-threaded member 13 is guided into engagement with the opening 5 of the ear 4,
when the nut 15 is removed. After the screw-threaded member 13 has entered the opening 5 of the ear 4,-the nut15 is applied to the screw-threaded member 13, as is manifest. The hooked ends 7 of the holder plate 6 provides ways to receive the side edges of the guard plate and permit of sliding adjustj i ments of the blade 9 and holder plate 6 upon the guard plate 1, as is manifest.
If it is desired to use the'device as a safety razor to shave with the holder plate 6 and blade 9 are adjusted to the position on the guard-plate, as illustrated in Fig. l.
Now, if it is desired to use the device for the urpose of trimming hair, the operator of the exposed slots between the guard fingers 2 would be shortened accordingly, by slidable adjustment of the holder plate 6 and blade 9 upon the guard plate 1, as is manifest. I
From the foregoing description, it is evident that l have constructed a combination safety razor and hair trimmer which is simple in construction and operation, consistmg of a minimum number of parts and which will be highly efiicient for the poses intended, owing to the tact that the blade 9 may be easily and readily shdably adjusted to various cutting positions upon the guard plate '1.
The many advantages of the herein described invention Will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains.
I do not wish to be understood as having limited myself to the details of construction shown and described, but desire to have it understood that the invention l have shown in the drawings is merely illustrative, as it is manifest that various minor changes may be made in the exact construction and par- Pu I nee s-e11 plate at a right angle thereto, a blade holder plate, a lurality of hooked. guide fingers formed a ong'the side edges of said blade holder plate for slidably mounting the blade holder plate upon the guard plate, a plurality of protuberanoes extending from the rear face of said blade holder plate, a razor blade havin one or more cutting edges and provided with a plurality of openings for the protuberances of the blade holder plate to engage in for holding the razor blade in a fixed position between the bladeholder plate and the guard plate, a screw threaded stem fired at its lower end to the front face of said blade holder plate near the up per edge thereof and passing through the opening of the aforesaid ear of the guard plate, a stop nut carried by said screw til threaded stem for engagement with the inner face'of said ear. and a'second nut carried by the screw threaded stem for locking engagement with the outer face of said ear to retain the blade holder late and the razor blade in'any adjusted e ovation with relation to, the free ends ofthe, guard fingels of the guard plate.
In testimony whereof, l have hereunto signed my name to the specification.
