RICHARD K. -WALTON, OF OLARINGTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN MINERS PICKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,808, dated November 18, 1873; application tiled July 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RIcHARD K. WALTON, of Olarington, in the county of Monroe and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Miners Pick; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a side elevation, partly broken out. Fig. 2 is a front view of bit, and Fig. 3 is an end vieur of bit.
My invention is a movable bit to be attached to an ordinary pick-head, and prevented from turning by a clamp-screw. This bit is providedwijfh tivo triangular-shaped points. ,/A is the movable bit, the back of which is either slightly curved or straight, according` to the manner in which it is to be used. The
,sides of the bit are usually made parallel.
Upon the lower side of the bit is cnt an angu- I I, lar-shaped groove, b, which makes at the end of the bit Vtwo triangular-shaped points, a a. `\B,is a sl1 al1l;V provided with a thread, which screws into the head C, being held from turning by the clamp-screw D, which terminates on a flattened side of the pin B.
The pick-head is similar in shape to that of an ordinary miners pick.
To use the pick, it may be attached to a common pick-handle, or to a machine made for this purpose.
, Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. As an improvement in miners7 picks, the detachable bit A, having the angular groove b and the triangular-shaped,points a a, as shown and described.
2. The bit A, provided with a screw-threaded tenon having a iiattened side, in combination with a head, O, and clamp-screw D, as shown and described, for the purpose speciied.
