CHARLES G. BATES, O F MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
. Aumronivr STANDARD-'FORM caminarI Application filed January 7, '1922. serial' No. 527,670.
To all. whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, CHARLJisG. BATES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented cer- 1 tain new and useful Improvements in Uniform Standard-Form Cabinets; and Indo hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the inven tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. v r
This invention relates'to a cabinet, particularly to a filing cabinet adapted to contain insurance or other forms. Insurance forms of standard size and design are now required in practically all States ofy thel Union and the cabinet of the present inven.- tion isdesigned particularly for holding such forms and for the useor' agents handling the same. y l It is an object of this invention to provide a simple, convenient cabinet which will contain the forms above `referred to and by means-,of which they canbe quickly placed in position and' withdrawn.`
Other objects and advantagesof the invention'will be apparentlfrom the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings in which-g y Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a cabinet as shown in Fig. 3;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same when in closed position;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the cabinet with the lid thereof raised, taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; Y
Fig. 4 is a detail on an enlarged scale oi one of the hinged sections. i
Referring to the drawings, the cabinet isseen to comprise a rectangular bottom portion 1, the side walls 2 and the end walls 3, which, together, form a rectangular box. A reinforcing strip 4 surrounds the liront side and ends of the box. A lid member 5 having the flange strips 6 on the front and ends thereof, is hinged by a hinge 7 'to the rear side wall 2-and is adapted to tightly close the cabinet when in closed position, as shown in Fig. 2. The lid member 5 is held in open position by the links 8, one of which is hinged to the inside'thereoi and the other of which .is pivotally secured to the inside of one ofthe end walls 3, the
links beingfpivoted' together,"vas shown. in
Fig. 3 and forming atoggle. .'[hisrtogglev when 'straightened with thelidiopen will hold the same in open posit-ion. `It can be brokenand disposed inside of the box when the lid is closed. `The cabinet has a'v parti-` tion member 9 extending transversely thereacross a shortl distance from` one end forming anend compartment 10.
A par! tition llextends longitudinally of thecabif netrfrom the partition 9' to one ofthe end Awalls' 3.at substantially vthe transverse center thereof or slightly toward the rear end. vThe partition 11 is shown'as received in slots in the members at the Vends thereof and this partition does not extend quite to the topof the cabinet,y as shown in Fig 3.
A partition member 12 Vextends between n the partition9v and yone. of ythe end wallsg3 and is hinged at its lower portion a short `.distance from the rear side `wallv2,`fthe upper end of the partition extending sub-4 stantially to the top of the cabinet andbeing beveled to a sharp edge which rests 4 against the said side wall -v2 Vat .its upper f portion. `This partition forms a triangular compartmentl 13; Another partition memf ber 14 is hinged at its` lower end somedisi tance from the front of the partition 11 and 1,
is of substantially the same. height asthe partition 11. vShort spacing blocks 15:.a're disposed betweeny the partitions 11 .and 14 against Which the latterrnormally rests to be retained in the position shown in Fig. 3.
rlhe partitionlc forms with the partition 11 another substantially triangular compartrnent 15y and forms with the front side wall 2 one of the main compartments 16,v the other main compartment 17 being.
:termed between partitions l1 and 12.
AThe main compartments` 16 and 17k are adapted to receive the standard insurance forms, which forms are almost as long as said compartment. The rate lists and other smaller documents canv be conveniently tiled in the compartments 13 and 15, while the shorter forms of miscellaneous nature can be conveniently filed` in the compartment 10. The. cabinet hasl been found to have great utility Vin actual vpractice and to be most convenient andk eliiclent for the rapid handling of the various forms,
which, as stated, are now largely of a standard size as required by State laws.
front of said partition, said last named partition being hinged at its lower portion and normally adapted to stand ininclined position with its upper portion nearer the first mentioned partition than its lower portion.
2. The structure set forth in claim l, both of said partitions terminating a short distance below the top edge of the box.
3. A uniform standard form cabinet havingin combination a substantially rectangular box, a partition extending transversely of said box and spaced a short distance from one end thereof, a partition extending from said first mentioned lpartition to the other end of the box and 'bei-nghinged at its lower port-ion, they-upper portion of the same resting against the rear side of the box.
4. A form cabinet having in combination a substantially rectangular box, a partition extending transversely of the same and spaced a short distance from one end thereof, a vertical stationary partition extending from said partition to the other end of the box at substantially the transverse center thereof, and a partition having its lower edge hinged to 'the bottom of the box a short distance infront of said stationary partition and normally disposed to incline towards the same.
5. The structure set forth in claim et both of said last mentioned partitions terminating a short distance from the top of the box.
6. rlhe structure set forth in claim 5, and a partition extending from the transverse partition to the other end of the box having its lower end hinged to the bottom of the box a short distance from the rear side thereof and having its upper end normally resting against the rear side of the box.
7. rihe structure set forth in claim 5, and a hinged cover for said box.
8. A form cabinet ha ving in combination a substantially rectangular box, a partition extending transversely thereof adjacent one end, vertical partitions' extending longitudi nally thereof between said transverse part-ition and the other end of the box and be ing hinged at their lower ends to the bottom of the box, one of said partitions inclining` toward the rear side of the box at its upper end, and the other` inclining toward the fixed vertical partition at its upper end.
9. The structure set forth in claim 8, and a hinged cover for said box.
.10. rlhe structure set forth in claim 8, a hinged cover for said box, and means for holding said cover in open position.
l1. A form cabinet comprising a substantially rectangular box, a partition extending transversely thereof adjacent one end, a vertical fixed partition extending from said fixed partition to the remote end of the box, a hinged portion also extending from the transverse partition rto the remote end of the box having its upper end normally inclined toward said fixed partition and another partition extending from said transverse partition to the remote end'of the box and being inclined Awith its upper end in contact with the rearof the box.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
