Description

1,611,295 E. 0. WEST plsPLAy CASE Dec. 21 ,1926.
Filed April 14 1925 vPatentedDec. 21 l DISPLAY CASE. i
Application filed April 14, 1925. Serial new} .This invention relates to improvements in store furniture, and 1s" more partlcularly adapted to a case or cabinet for displaying merchandise in a neat and sanitary manner.
One of the-important objects of the present invention is to provide a display case of the above mentioned character which includes a box or bin in which the merchandise to be displayed is placed, the box being normally disposed at an angle, means being pro- :vided for facilitating the outward" movement of the box from ,the cabinetsimulta neous with the opening of thegclosure arranged atthe rear ofthe cabinet. I
A furtherobject of the invention is to provide a display case of theiabove men tioned character, wherein a tray ishingedly connected at its rear end to the inner side of the closure provided for the cabinet, 7 the tray being adapted tonsupport the box in which the merchandise iscontained in the cabinet, at an angle when the closure is in a closedcondition, said tray permitting the box to be moved outwardly from the cabinet, whenthe closureis swung to an open'posi tion,' and further enabling theboxtobe disposed in a substantially horizontal position, whereby access thereto may be easily had.
A still further object is to provide a display case of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well I adapted for the purpose for which it is des ignated. v 1 i Other objects and advantages of this invention'will become apparent during the course of the following d-etaileddescription. In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views: I
' Figure 1 isa top plan view of the display case, embodying my invention, and Figure 2 is a sectional view, through of the compartments. a
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferredem bodiment of the invention, the, numeral 1 designatesgenerally the display cabinet 01' case, the same comprising the bottom 2, the side 3, the front l and the inclined top 5. A vertical partition is arranged intermediate the ends of the cabinet andis arranged transversely therein to providea pair of compartments, each of which is open at the rear of the cabinet. The topv 5 of the cabi-j one.
net is provided withthe transparencies, 6 for each of the comp'artments,-as clearly illustrated in Figure 1. Aclosure 7 is'provided for the open rear end of each of the coinpartments, the same being hinged at its lower end as clearly illustrated at '8 in F igure 2.:nA suitablehandle 9 is provided for facilitating the opening and closing of'each closure. A' pair of. longitudinally extend ing'wooden strips 10 and 11 are arranged in the bottom of the cabinet adjacentthe front;
and rear'thereof respectively. A- pairof spaced rods 12 extend longitudinally in each i I of the compartments, the forward ends of the rods being disposed in the front strip 10,
while the oppos te ends of the rods are dis posed in the rear strip 11. The purpose of the gulde rods will hereinafter be more fully described. I
A tray 131s arranged in each of the compartments, the same being hingedly secured at its rear end to the intermediate portion of the respective closure? in the manner as illustrated'at 1 4;. The forward endof each tray is provided with an upstanding flange l4. and the samenormally' rests on the-spaced guide rod 12 at a point adjacent the flat strip 10. The box or receptacle in which the merchandise to be displayed is contained, is illustrated at 16, and the box is supported on the tray 13,"i n the manner as clearly illustrated'in Figure 2. Thebox is openat,
its top and .when the same is disposed to its respective compartment, the merchandise will be displayed and may be readily seen through the transparency 6 provided in. the
top 5 of the cabinet, the box "being supported atan incline with the tray and is normally in the position shown in Figure 2 of the drawing. The'upstanding'flange 15 formed on the" forward endof the tray 13 engages the front end of the box and prevents the displacement of thelatter from the tray." V
As is obvious from the construction illustrated in the drawing, the merchandise in the boxes contained in the several comi .partments of the cabinet is at all times visible to the customer; However,"it, is impos-- sible for the customer to gain access to. the
contents of the box from' 'either the front or "top of the cabinet. The cabinet may be swung upwardly to a closedposition sin closure outwardly onits pivot 8, thetrny 13 Will be adapted to slide rearwardly along the guide rods 12 and at the same time cause the rearward sliding movement of the bog 16 so that a portion of the box will be moved out- Wardly' from the cabinet. ltis also to be understood. that as the closure 7 is swung rearwardly and downwardly, the tray and box associated therewith. Will also become lowered so that the trayand box will be disposed in a. substantially horizontal position, whereby it will be unnecessary to hold the closure or support the same, While'the coir tents of the box are being removed theret'ronn I After the inerch'a'ndise 'has been removed from the box or receptacle, the closure tan eousl returnin the tra .and box tothe r normal positions W1th1n the compartments.
The display case or cabinet embodying my invention may be constructed or' any suitable material, and I do seems -11 to limit myself to the particular numberiot compartinents which may be provided.
The simplicity in Which the present invention is constructed, enables the several parts to be readily assembled or disassembled, and
furthermore the box in hich the merchandise is placed may be readily and easily inserted or removed from the snpportingtray on'ivhich the box is adapt-ed tb -rest when m the cabinet. I d While I have shown the preferred embodi- "holding the box in an inclined display posicase, a closure for the open rear end. of the. OILSBfSELlClClOSUlG being hinged at its lower encha tray pivotal v I V v J p its rear end to the intermediate portion oi said hinged closure, saidtr'ay being lnclmed downwardly toward the front of the case, an
upstanding flange formed on the forward end of the tray and adapt d to engage the lornard'end of open top box for supporting the same on the tray, and norma tion in the case, said tray and said box'being adapted to be gradually lowered during the outward downward swinging movement of said closure and simultaneously moving the 'reanportioh of the box and the tray out- Wardly of-the case, and guide rools'eiztend- 'ing between the front and rear strips and on which the forward end of the tray is adapted to slide.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
