A. A. DAYTON. FORM FOR son TURNOVER puFFs. HLED OCT. 15. 1921.
' I at 1mg Patented Feb. 20, 1923.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALTON A. DAYTON, 0F ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM H. STANLEY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
FORM FOR SOFT TURNOVER CUFFS.
Application filed October 15, 1921. Serial No. 507,978.
To all 107K077! it may concern.
Be it known that I, ALTON A. DAYTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alameda, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Forms for Soft Turnover Cuffs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an attachment for soft cuffs of the fold-over variety, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a readily attachable and detachable form or stay for insertion within the fold of the cuff to preserve its shape, two of the forms being necessary for the purpose, one for each end of the cuff.
lVith the foregoing and other objects and advantages in View, the invention consists of the hereinafter described and claimed construction.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my invention, Figure l is a plan view of the form or stay; Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof, and Figure 3 shows the attachment applied to a soft cufl Like numerals are employed in the several views of the drawing to designate like parts of construction.
1 designates the form or stay which has an upper and a lower straight edge, 2 and 3 respectively. The front edge 4 of the form may be either straight or curvilinear, being shown in the drawing as the latter. The form 1 tapers gradually in width from its front edge to the rear edge 5, to admit of the form being readily inserted between the folds of a soft out]? 6 and between the edge 7 thereof and the link or shank 8 of the cuffbutton. i In the lower edge 3 of the form 1, near the front edge 4 thereof, is located a round slot 9, adapted to engage the link or'shank 8 of the cuff-button and to thereby retain the said form in correct position, as shown. The form 1 is made of any thin and suitable material which has sufficient flexibility to; meet the requirements of its use. Celluloid or Brazilian or French ivory are preferred for the purposes of the invention.
To increase the flexibility of the form so that it may bend freely, either lengthwise or cross-wise, without breaking, a slit 10, is provided in the form lengthwise thereof and extending from a point near the front edge 4 to a point near the rear edge 5, with enlargements of the slit at each end, shown as 11 and 12.
With a pair ofthese forms in place within the folds of a turn-over soft cuff, it will be apparent that the ends as well as the adjacent edge of the cuff will be held toits normal shape and a neat appearance thereof preserved. The forms may he slipped in or out when desired, but when in place the slots 9, will prevent accidental disengagement.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and Letters Patent, is;
1. As anew article of manufacture, a form retainer for soft turn-over cuffs comprising a substantially flat unit or member having two converging opposite edges, said unit be ing provided with a cuff-link engaging notch in one of said edges near the widerend of said retainer.
desire to secure by Y 2. As a new article of manufacture, a
form retainer for soft turn-over cuffs, comprising a substantially fiat unit or member having two converging opposite edges, said- A. S. PARE, F. L. WOLFE.
