SANITARY DISPLAY COVER.
Application filed May 8, 1922. Serial No. 559,494.
To all whom t may, concern.'
Be it known that I, HARVEY J. MYERS, a citizen of the United States residing at Minneapolis, in the county of ennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Display Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sanitary display covers for use on boxes, crates, barrels, pails or other containers in which is held and displayed edibles such as dried fruits, candies, ripe fruits, etc., and the main object is to provide a quickly and easily attachable and detachable cover har/*ing a large window through which the contents of the container may be seen, yet protectedA from rats, lies, cats or other insects or animals. Further objects will he disclosed in the coni-se or the following speciiicationand are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a top view of a box equipped with my improved sanitary display cover.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of one section of the cover frame.
Fig. l is a perspective view of one or the hinge clamps, detached.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters 5 designates a container in which is packed the contents 6 to be shipped, displayed and sold. The cover which embodies my invention consists oi a traino 7, in' which is clamped a glass 8. The frame 7 consists of four pair ci? strips 9 all of which are rigidly secured together by rivets or screws 10. .flach frame section comprises an upper and lower strip, each of which has an integral angular projection. 11 at one end, which overlaps andY is secured to the correspondingly opposite end of the adjacent strip, thus forming rigid connections eachccorner of the frame.
rllhe rear strip 9 is provided with a pair of slots 12 in which are hooked a pair of hinge clamping members 13, which clamp over the rear wall of the box (see Fig. The members 18 are made of heavy spring material so that they will retain their proper position on the box, but may each be provided with a punched in tooth 111 which will insure the retention of the member in its proper place. The members 13 are further provided at their upper ends with upwardly projecting bearing portions l5, which ena gage in the slots 12 so that the cover can be opened and closed by swinging thereon.
The cover may be supported in an open position by a bracket consisting of a pair of links 16 and 17, pivotally connected at 18. rllhe linlr 16 is pivot-ally secured to the cover as at 19, while a short nail or screw 20 pivotall secures the link 17 to the box. The linii 17 is Jfurther provided with a small lip 21 which engages in a notch 22 in the lever 16, to hold the bracket rigidly straight when the cover is open..
The cover is also provided near its rear end with a card holding member 23 having a pair of flanges 24 under which may be inserted a card or sign 25, designating the character or price of the contents in the box.
lt is understood that suitable modifications may be made in this device, providing, however, that such modiiications come within the spirit and scope or the appended claims.
Having now therefore fully shown and described my invention what I claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A cover for containers consisting of a trame having` a window therein, said frame having slots in the rear end thereof, hinge clamps adapted to engagesaid slots with their upper ends and to clamp on the container with their lower ends.
display cover for containers, having slots in one end thereof, hinge members engagable in said slots, said members having downwardly extending clamping portions adapted to clamp onto the container.
8. A display cover for containers, having slots in one end thereof, hinge members engageable in said slots, said members having downwardly extending clamping portions adapted to clamp onto the container, each of said hinge members having a tooth in one of said clamping portions for engagement with the container.
4, ln a device of the class described having a cover provided with slots in its rear end, means iior hingedly securing the cover to a container consisting oi a pair of clamping members adapted to be clamped onto the container, said clamping members having upwardly projecting integrally formed bearing portions engageable in said cover slots.
ln testimony whereof ailix my signature.
