LINGEBEE crass.
application filed April 27, 1922. Serial No. 556,944.,
7 Tea-Z5 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ronnirr H. Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Lingerie Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to clasps for use upon lingerie and the like. and has for its essential objects facility of attachment; firmness of engagement; safety against accidental disengagement; and inerpensiveness.
To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
' In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my clasp disengaged,
Figure 2, a side elevation enga ed,
Figure 3,21 longitudinal central section of one end of the clasp, and
Figure 4, asection on line H of Figure 3.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
My clasp comprises an oblong strip of thin resilient metal formed into upper and lower arms 6 and 7 with an intermediate bend 8. The arms are normally slightly divergent when in open position, and substantially parallel when in closed position, although both are preferably slightly arcuate. The lower or base arm is provided centrally near its free end with a hole 10, and in this instance has intermediate its length a plurality ot' elevations 11. Fast in the'hole 10 by friction or solder is a cup or seat 12 integral with whose top wall is a disk 13 having a downwardly directed peripheral flange l4 terminating in an intnrned head or flange l5 engagingthe arm 8. The cup has at diametrically opposite points in its side transverse slots 17.
A curved spring comprising a body 19 of greater dimensions than a half circle has parallel inwardly directed arms 20 with 4' bends 21 continued to form fingers 22 parallel with each other and registering in the slots 1'3.
Fast to'the lower face of the arm 6 by solder or otherwise or integral therewith is a base 25 of a post 26 provided with ahead 27 adapted to enter the cup or recess 12 as a sliding fit but of slightly greater diameter than the distance between the spring lingers 20. Thus the fingers expand to permit passage of the head into the lower part of the cup when the arm 6 is pressed towards the arm. 8 and immediately retract and retain the head-as shown in Figure 3. The parts are thus locked into engagement with each other so firmly as to prevent accidental disengagement.
In use the arms embrace the parts to he clasped, and a pressure of a thumb and in ger locks the free ends of the arms.
I claim In a lingerie clasp, a'pair of resilient arms, one arm loeingrovided with a hole, a cup in the hole provided with lateral slots, a disk integral with the cup, a peripheral flange on the dish, a spring in the disk comprising a body engaging the flange and resilient fingers registering in the slots, a post fast to the other arm,and a head on the post registeraole in the cup and engageahle by the fingers.
In testimony whereof I have afixed my signature,
' ROBERT H. MOURE.
