Description

A. RIVIERE.
- Plnws.
f :L l
Inventor:
www z UNITED STATES PATENT FFIOE.,
ANDREWS RIVIERE, OF BARNESVILLE, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.r144,477, dated November 11, 1873; application filed 'Y August 30. 1873.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREWS RIVIERE, of Barnesville,-in the county of Pike and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Plow, of which the following is a speciiication In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved plow; and Fig. 2 a front view of the plowshare and connecting parts.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre'- sponding parts. j
The invention will rst be fully described and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents `the beam, and B the standard-bars, which are set into recesses of beam A, and pivoted to it by a strong cross-bolt, u. The standard-bars B are connected rigidly at their lower ends, and form a strong rounded-oli' support for the under side of the plowshare G. The curved brace D is rigidly attached to bars B passing up between them and through a recess, b, of beam A, vertically above the share, being curved in the shape of an S. The end of brace D which projects above beam A is provided with pert'orations d, and locked, by means of cross-pin e, according' to the angle of inclination under which the plowshare is set. yA lug, f, of brace D, projects at its lower end beyond standards B, and is applied, like a jaw, into a recess, f', of share C. An adjusting-rod, E,passes between standard-bars B along'the rear of brace D, and up through a conical perforation, b', of beam A, being threaded at the end, projecting above the saine, and raised or lowered by a i crank, F, turning thereon. The lower end of adjusting-rod E` curves around the lower end of brace D, and projects, also, with a tapering jaw, g, beyond standardsB, into a correspond/ ing aperture, g', of share G, by which the same j while resting on the standard B, is heldwith a'rm wedge-like gripe between the jaws 0f\ brace D Vand rod E. Different shares may, in this manner, be attached to the plow, as necessitated bythe various requirements of farming, and their'an'gles of elevation and depression be determined by simply adjusting the fore end of the brace.
The light, yet strong, arrange-ment of the supportingstandards, brace, and rod, make the plow durable, not liable to get out of order, and, by the simplicity of setting the share, very desirable to farmers.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the beam A, pivoted standard-bars B, curved brace D, adjustable rod E with crank F, and share C, arranged substantially as and for the purpose described.
