QOLLAPSIBLE TABLE.
Application filed ma 25, 1922. Serial no. 563,504.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES Game BRANT and lVILLIAM M. FURY, citizens of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New Yorlnhave invented certain new and useful Improvements '11 Collapsible Tables; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, cleanand exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and'use the same.
Tiis invention relates to new and useful improvements in tables, and particularly to folding tables.
One object of the invention is to provule a table which can be folded into a small and compact condition, for various uses, such as for campers, paper-hangers, and the like.
Another object is to provide a table of this character which has a top formed in a plurality of sect-ions, and which sections are adapted to be brought into approximately parallel position, when the table is in folded condition, and to form a comparatively long table. when. in set up or unfolded condition.
A still further object is to provide a. folding table of this character which has a number of receptacles mounted there-under, and which have covers so connected to the folding portions of the table that when the table is in unfolded position the covers will be moved into and held in open position, and when in folded position, the covers will be moved into and retained in closed position, such receptacles being provided for contain ing campers utensils, or workmens tools.
Other objects and advantages wlll be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a. side elevation of the table in set up condition.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the table in folded condition. y
Figure 3 is an end view of the device in the position of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an elevation of the device in the position of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a bottom plan view of the table, in the position of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a horizontal longitudinal sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 1, looking upwardly.
The intermediate pivots of the toggle legs 1 f consist of the transverse shaft 17 and adjacent their lower ends the legs 14': are crossed and pivotally connected by the ends of the transverse shafts 18. As seen in Figure '5.
there. are four shafts 18, and three shafts 17, and connected to the intermediate shafts 18, at their lower longer edges by the bearing brackets 19, and at their upper longer edges to the center shaft 17, by means of the bearing brackets 20, are the boxes or receptacles 21. Each of the boxes has a hinged cover 22, which is connected to an outer shaft 17, by means of the hinge 23. By his arrangement, when the table is in set up or unfolded condition, the lids or covers 22 will be swung into open position, and maintained in such position, so that ready access may be had to the interior of the boxes. /Vhen, however, the table is folded into the position shown in Figures 2 and 4, the covers will be swung into closed position, to prevent loss of the contents of the boxes. while the table is being transported.
0n the outer edge of the lower face of each of the sections 11, of the table top,
there is mounted a latch bolt 2a, which is arranged to. be received in a keeper carried by the adjacent portion of the outer section 10, whereby, when the top is properly manipulated, as in setting the table up for use, these latches will maintain the sections 10 and 11 in proper level position, and
whereby the table top will. be smooth and continuous, throughout its length. The links 15, 16 and 16' are formed with laterally extending projections which are re ceived in notches 26, in the adjacent portions of the next adjacent links, for the purpose or preventing the top sections from moving downwardly beyond a common plane.
Secured to the inner faces of the upper ends oi the legs 1& are the metal strips 27, which have their upper ends beveled, as shown at 28, to form rests for the links 15 and 16, when the table is set up, and whereby to serve as an additional means to prevent the sections 10 and 11 from moving downwardly below a horizontal plane.
It will be noted that the covers 22 lie in horizontal planes, when the table is set up, thereby providing additional spaces, in the form of shelves, on which to place articles.
What is claimed is:
1. A folding table including a sectional top, link connections between the top sec tions and toggle supports connected with the links and foldable therewith.
2. A foldable table including a top formed in sections, links pivotally connected to the top sections and toggle supports pivotally connected with said links and operable to fold the top sections upon folding movement of the toggle supports.
3. A foldable table including a top formed of a plurality of movable sections, links pivotally connected to the sections of the top and movable therewith, toggle supports pivotally connected with the said links and foldable therewith, receptacles carried by the toggle supports, and covers for the receptacles movable into and out of closed position as the toggle supports are correspondingly moved.
A ."foldable support including toggles, a receptacle fixed on the toggles and movable therewith during folding and unfolding movement, and a cover for the receptacle movably connected to the receptacle and to the toggles for movement into and out of closed position upon corresponding movement of the toggles.
5. A folding supporting means including parallel arranged toggles, rods connecting the parallel toggles, a receptacle fixed on the rods, a cover movably connected to the receptacle, and a pivotal connection between the free edge of the cover and one of the rods whereby the cover will be moved into and out of closed position upon closing and opening movement of the toggles.
In testimony whereof, We affix our signatures.
