To all who/1t it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM lVALTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, city, county,
5 and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Wristbands, Etc, of which the following is a specification.
Nhile adaptable for use generally as a clasp or fastening for bands of various kinds, my invention is designed primarily to afford a suitable clasp Or fastening for wrist watch ribbons, bands, or bracelets; the object being to attain a simple. inexpensive,
but eflective device of this character which is noiseless in operation and conveniently manipulatable, while insuring ample attach ment security and stability under or conditions of use ;the invention cons; g
essentially in the specific construction, combination and arrangement of parts and appurtenances herein described and claimed, and a distinctive feature being the duplex character of the clutch mechanism provided,
for reasons, and substantially in the manner,
hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1, exemplifies, in perspective, the use of my improved form of clasp in conjunction with a watch wrist band, the parts of the clasp being disconnected;

It is to be understood, as a preliminarypropositiou, that my new duplexmlutch clasp is designed primarily and specifically for use in conjunction with relatively broad flat bands, in contra-distinction to the scarf and other single pin clutches heretofore known in the prior state of the art,-the object being to attain, in addition to absolute security,

even alignment of the band, and prevent the twisting, and distortion thereof when in use. With this explanation of purport, B, represents a flat ribbon or band of any suitable or desired flexible material, shown in Fig. 1., of the drawing as attached at one end to the loop to, of a watch W, or equivalent article of personal adornment or wear, the other, or so called free end, of the band being passed through the other loop w, of said 6 article W, and being tipped by, and having rigidly secured to it, my twin coupling tongue member T, which is shown detached in Fig. 5.
By reference to Figs. 5, (l, and "4', of the To drawings. it will be seen that my twin cou pling tongue member T, is made in one piece with a loop-shapod, base Z. formed with the slot 2?, and the rear bar F, for the attachment of the free end of the band B, and 7; also with the front bar 7?, formed with spaced apart parallel twin coupling tongues T".
The duplex clutch frame or yoke member Y, is also preferably formed in one piece, rith the duplicate recesses 0 1 for the re so commodation of the automatic clutches (,7, C, which are facsimiles, and are united integrally by a cross bar C. rigidly secured to the outer ends of the tubular shanks c, c, which form integral parts of the clutches C. Said tubular shanks c, 0, extend through and beyond the yoke frame Y, so that the cross bar 0, constitutes an exterior finger piece for manipulative purposes. Coiled springs s, s, encircle the shanks c, 0, being interposed between the heads 0, c, of said clutches C, C, and the end walls 7 1 of the recesses y, y, of the yoke frame Y,-said end walls being perforated tor the accommodation of the aforesaid tubular shanks c, 0, of the clutches C. C, and said springs s, s, tending constantly to thrust said clutches C. toward the opposite end walls y of the recesses 3 3 as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 6 of the drawings.
In the heads 0, c, of the clutches C, C, are loosely mounted gripping devices g, g, preferably either spherical or cylindrical in shape which contact with the twin coupling tongues W, t, when the latter are inserted in the duplex clutches (V3, through holes formed for the purpose in both the outer casing K, and the end walls g 2/ of the yoke frame 1 as shown particularly in Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings, These gripping devices g, g, yield to the twin coupling tongues 1%, t, when. the latter against the sistance oil the springs s, s, are thus forcefully inserted into the duplex clutches U, (l, but bind and hold said coupling tongues 2' t, against retractile movement or witlnlrawal, when the extraneous pressure on the twin couilin ains 1% is released in which event the springs s, 8, force the gripping devices g, g against the inclined convergent side walls ;1 7 ot the yoke Y, as shown in Figs. 2 and 6 of the drawings, this bein the normal co-relationship of the parts.
When it is desired to release the twin coupling tongues t*, t, the duplex. clutches C. C, are retracted as indicated in Fig. T, which represents such retract-ile or medial position when effected either by the forceful insertion of the said twin-coupling. tongues t", Z, or by a pull exerted by the fingers of the operator through. the medium of thecross bar C, as the case may be.
The shell or casing K in which the duplex clutch yoke Y, and clutches C, C, are permanently enclosed is formed with loop bars 7c, 70, through which the band B, passed. so that the clutch member. Y, K, considered in a unitary sense, is slidable upon said band B, to adapt the said band and c asp to the requirements of individual use.
My clasp thus consisting of the duplex clutch member and the twin-coupling tongue member, as herein. set forth is simple and inexpensive of structure, facile and noiseless in operation, and insures a flat, taut, even alignment of the band to w iich it is applied. Furthermore, it is a clasp which is positive in character, and of exceptional strength and durability, affording ample security for tea e574;

It is to be understood that while I have herein shown and. described my clasp as applied to a wrist band by way of exempliiication, I do not limit myself thereto, since the clasp may be used, on belts, garters, necklaces, etc, without departing from the spirit and intent of my invention in. this respect.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
1. In a clasp ot the character designated, the combination of a duplex clutch member, embodyingtwo automatic clutches united integrally by a cross bar and mounted in a unitary yoke frame, said yoke frame formed with recesses having convergent side walls, a casing formed with band loop bars, and a t vin coupling-tongue member formed with a band loop and bar, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. A clasp ot the character designated, comprising a duplex clutch member consisting of a unitary yolre frame formed with recesses having convergent side walls, automatic clutches mounted in said yoke "frame and rigidly connected" by a manipulatory cross-bar, a casing enclosing said yoke and clutch mechanism, and formed with loop bars for slidable attachment to a band. and. in combination with said duplex clutch member, a twin coupling tongue member formed with a slot and bar for attachment to the free end 0t said band, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
