This invention relates to suspension dev1ces for punchmg or striking bags or balls that are extensively used for athletic eXer cise, and the object thereof is to provide a readily detachable ball and socket uppermember, a stirrup and adjustable-stem intermediate-member and loop-strap lower connecting-member that are arranged in vertical sequence whereby the punch or strike bag or ball may be suspended from a ceiling or other suitably elevated or overhead supporting-means and thereby adapted to be hung in the usual rebounding position before the athlete or otheriuser and to be readily released from said position b Y elmply unscrewing the ball-and-socket connection from the ceiling-plate, or otherwise disconnecting the bag or ball from its stirrupconnection with the said adjustable-stem, when it is desired to remove the bag or ball from using-placeand to thus provide for its safe-keeping when the user intends it for his purpose alone and not subject to undue wear and careless handling by others than himself, all of which is a desirable feature in the sale and use of sporting goods of this character, and the replacingor re-hanging of the bag or ball and its hangingdevice just as easily accomplished by simply sci-ew ing the socket-member'to the said ceilingplate, all of which will be fully hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of the punchingbag outfit herein complete, the same being shown in suspended position (but with the bag on a slightly reduced seal ready for use; Fig. i, a similar view, at right-a thereto, however, and with the ceiling or overhead supporting-means omitted and also with the punching-bag broken oil just below its upper end or loop-tip; and Fig. 2-3, a vertical central or axial section of the hangerdo do: embodying my invention herein, (but omitting the stirrup-member.) 4 indicates the ordinary punching or strikirfg bag or ball, having a suspension loop or strap 5 that is stitched or otherwise secured in place to the tip or upper end 6 thereof.

The lower end of the stem or shank 520 is made flat-sided to give it full-width strength and good wearable thickness, as shown at 2-3. and said lower end is pierced with a tran verse opening or hole shown in dotted-l. s in l 3.

The principal feature of advantage in the use or my device herein is the readiness of iounting the bagand the ball-and-socket members that are connected together into suspended-positjion from screWed-connection of the cup or box ll with the dependingflange 11 of the ceiIing-plate or overheadsupport 8, the latter only being left in handy or ordinarily fixed place for the easy hanging of the punching-bag when it is desired for athletic use.

I claim 1. In a suspension-hanger device for punching-bags the combination of a ceilingor overhead member, a box having connection with said ceiling-member and pro vided with a central inwardly-beveled bearing-orifice, a spherical bearing-ball member pivotally-engaging the said beveled bearing-orifice in the box, and a stirrup-member having an upwardly-extending stein in engement with the lower extending-face of the said spherical bearing-ballmember and also provided with a lower cross-bar adapted for the reception and pivotal-engagement of the suspension-loop of the punching-bag.

A suspension-hanger device for a punching-bag comprising aceiling diskmember having a central depending outwardly-threaded deep flange, a cup or box member havi 11g readily detachable threadedconnectlon with the said threaded flange of the said ceiling-member and also provided with an inwardly-beveled central bearingoriiice, a hollow partially-spherical ballinember pivotally-inounted in the said beveled bearing-orifice of the box-meniher, and a stirrup having an upwardlyextending stem pivotally-attached thereto and adapted to engage the lower extendingiace of the said ball-member and also provided with a lower crossbar that is adapted the reception and pivotal or swinging engagement of the suspending-loop of the punchingbag substantially as herein shown and described.
