Be it known that l, Vieron H. Cani-mii, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment Hangers, ol' which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a hanger or support for garments, and its chief object is to provide a hanger of improved construction which enables a coat or similar garment to be suspended without sagging at the collar, and which can be manufactured at a inoderate cost.

Another object of the invention is to provide the hanger with a simple detachable support for trousers and the like.

Figure 4l is a top plan view of one of the blanks from which the shoulder-wings are formed. Figure 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of the name plate.

The main body or frame of the hanger is preferably of skeleton-like form and constructed of a single piece of wire including a base portion or member l0, rearwardly ei;- tending end portions 11, and an arched or upwardly-curved shoulder portion or inem` ber 12. The free inner ends or branches 18 of the base portion are bent rearwardly at a point substantially midway of its length and are oined together by twisting` or otherwise, as shown in Figs. l and. 2. One of these branches is comparatively long and is bent upwardly to form a post or upright supporting` member 13a which extends above the shoulder portion l2 and terminates in a suspension hook 14. Eelow this hook, the post is provided with a rearwardly-offset loop 15 which embraces the adjacent central part of the shoulder portion l2, reliably interlocking these parts and preventing dis,` placement thereof.

structed of sheet metal and are attached at their ends to said partsby bending'or curling them around the same. rlhe side edges of each wing are substantially parallel and straight, while its lower attaching end is horizontal and its upper attaching end oblique or arranged at an angle to conform 'to the arched portion 12, as shown in, Fin'. 21, producing a comparatively low or short outer edge and a comparatively high or longr inner edge. As shown in Figsfil and these wings extend upwardly from the base portion of the hanger and are thence curved rearwardly to the oppositelv inclined shoulder portions. v

By this construction, the wings are bent to the proper curvature to cause the collar and adj oining parts of the coat to lie smoothly thereon without permitting sagging of the collar. Furthermore, by shapingD the wings in this manner, a saving in material is .tl'ecteth as they can be cut from a paralleledged strip or blank suoli as shown in Fig. Ll, entailing practically no waste. Y 17 represents a name plate disposed between the lower portions of the shoulder wings and provided at its ends with inwardly. facing guide flanges 1S which interlock with corresponding outwardly-facing flanges or guideways 19 formed along the inner upright edges of said wings, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The corners at the opposite lower ends of the plate may be out off, as shown in Fig. 2, to enable the latter to be positioned close to the base of the garment frame. i

Detachably suspended from the base portion 10 of the hanger is a trouser-support 2O which is preferably of substantially U- shaped form and constructed of wire. The upper ends of the arms 20a of this support are bent or offset rearwardly, shown at 2l, and terminate in inwardly-facing hooks The distance between these arms is substantially the same as that between the corresponding outer edges of the shoulder wings 16. In applying the trouser support to the coat-hanger, one of its arms is placed against the front side of the base portion 10 with its hook engaging behind the adjacent shoulder wing, and the hook of the other arm is then sprung behind the corresponding shoulder wing. By providing the offsets 21, the trouser support is allowed to hang in a vertical position, being prevented from swinging rearwardly by the hooks which abut against the rear sides of the shoulderwings.

In the modification of the name plate shown in Fig. 5, the same is provided near its ends with inwardly-facing guide lips 18 which are formed by producing U-shaped slits in said plate and then punching the resulting,` tongues outwardly.
