lMPROVEMENT IN GRAVE lViOUND COVERS.
Specification forming part of Lettexs Patent No 144,392, dated November 11, 1673; application filed October 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN HUNTER, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, h ave invented an Improvement in Mound-Covers, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to a mound-cover made of cast-iron or other suitable material, having around its bottom edge a groove or gutter, into which the water passes from the whole surface of the cover, there being one or more outlets by which the water is conducted away from the mound. The primary object of the cover is the protection of the mound to prevent its sinking by frequent rains. When covers have been used the water from their whole surface has been allowed to run down into the ground at the edge of the cover, and thus cause a Like letters of reference in all the figures indicate the same parts.
A is the mound-cover, shown in the drawings as consisting of a single piece of casting. It may, however, be made in sections, if desired, and, instead of cast-iron, of terra-cotta, or any other suitable material. Around the bottom edge of the cover is a flange, B, provided with a groove or gutter, 0, having one or more outlets, a, which should extend a sufiioient distance to carry the water entirely away from the grave.
I claim as my invention- A grave-mound cover having a groove or gutter, (1, around its lower edge, and provided with one or more outlets, a, substantially in the man nor and for the purpose set forth.
