WALTER L. COLLINS, OF MILFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 15,1913.
Application filed August 1, 1910. Serial No. 574,768.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lVALTEn L. COLLINS, residing at Milford, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Building Construction, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to building walls, and has for its object the construction of a wall whereby the usual base-board is omitted, and the usual ground is employed as a base-board, and a metallic reinforcement is embedded in the lath and plaster wall adjacent the top of said base-board, having a lip at the front corner of said lath and plaste'r wall, whichv extends over the front edge of the base-board at the top, thereby covering the baseboard and concealing any opening which might be caused by a shrinkage of the base-board.
Figure l, is a front elevation of a portion of the interior side of the building wall having a corner reinforcement at the top of the base-board. Fig. 2, is an enlarged vertical section taken on the dotted line 2-2, Fig. 1, Fig. 3, is an enlarged detail of a portion of a metallic reinforcement which may be employed.
0, represents a lath and plaster wall of usual construction, which extends down to the ground board h, which is herein em- )loyed as the base-board, the usual baseboard being omitted. At the junction of the lath and plaster wall 0, and base-board 72 a metallic reinforcement is shown, consisting of a metallic plate bent to form a vertical back portion 2', folded upon itself for a short distance, as at z", a horizontal portion i arranged to extend across the top of the base board, a downwardly extended lip '6 folded A upon itself, a diagonal portion 2", extended diagonally from front to back of the wall and an upwardly extended portion i, at the back of the wall. In this form of reinforcement all portions thereof, except the diagonal portion 1', may be solid, and said portion i made foraminous, and said foraminous portion may be made in any suitable manner to admit of its being embedded in the material of the wall; said reinforcement however, as a whole may be differently constructed, and comes within the scope of the invention when arranged to be embedded in the material of the wall and to present a lip at the front which extends down over the base-board h, for a short distance at the top, to close any opening which may be caused between the top of the base-board and the lower end of the wall due to shrinkage.
I claim:
A building wall having a base-board and a lath and plaster wall arranged adjacent said baseboard, and a metallic reinforcement embedded in the lath and plaster wall adjacent said baseboard, having a lip at the front corner of said lath and plaster wall which extends over the front edge of the base-board at the top, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
lVALTER L. COLLINS. lVitnesses CLIFFORD A. Coon, SALOME SrRAeUE.
