To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN ELDER, of Raymond, in the Province of Alberta and Dominion oi Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined ire Stretchers and Splicers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combined wire stretchers and splicers, and the objects of the invention are to provide an efiicient and economically constructed device of this class in practically one piece that can be readily handled and marketed at an attractive price to all those interested in wire fencing.
The invention consists essentially of a panoi? pivotally mounted curved arms provided 1 with clamps adapted to securely grip a fence wire, means for operating said clamps and means for controlling the radius out the arms.

In the drawings:
A is the combined Wire stretcher and splicer comprising a member 10 extended at one end to form a handle portion 11 and curved towards the other end at 12 to form the curved arm 13. Pivotally mounted at 1 1 on the member 10 at the shoulder is the operating arm 15 similarly curved to the arm 13 and adapted to extend partially downwards on the handle 11 to be secured thereto by a lever-operated cam member 16, whereby the swing oi": the arm 15 is regulated. Pivotally mounted at the outer ends of the arms 13 and 15 are the cam-shaped levers 22 and p 23 formed with gripping means in the shape of teeth 24 and provided with operating handles 25. FiXedly mounted in operative relationship to these levers 22 and 23 are block members 19 and 20 also provided with teeth 21adapted to engage with the teeth 24 on the block members to grip therebetween a wire or the like. 26 is a prong-shaped member fixedly secured to or integral with the arm 13 below the clamping member 17 and adapted to prise out staples or the like from the fence posts. 27 are anti-slipping teeth on the inside of the arms. e
In operation, to stretch a wire, the loose end thereof is gripped by either oi? the clamps, the opposite arm of the stretcher being placed around a fixed post or the like and gradually moved in a roundabout direction in opposition to that from which the wire proceeds. For splicing, the loose ends of the wires are engaged, one by each clamp, and the portion therebetween spliced with any suitable tool.
As many changescould be made in the above construction and many widely difl'erent embodiments of my invention within the scope oi the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the ac-' companying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim for my invention is:
1. A combined wire stretcher and splicer comprising a rigid member curved on its outer end to form an arm adapted to encircle a post or the like, an operative member pivotally mounted on the rigid member and formed with a similarly curved arm, clamping members on said arms comprising pivotally mounted cam-shaped levers and fixedly mounted blocks adapted to engage with one another to grip therebetween a wire, handle means for said cam-shaped levers, and toothed gripping means for said levers and said blocks.
2. A device of the class described comprisa rigid arm and a pivotally mounted arm, an extension formed on the 'pivotally mounted arm adapted to overlap the rigid arm and connected thereto by a lever operated cam, and clamping means on said arms comprising pivotally mounted levers and fixedly mounted blocks adapted to grip therebetween a wire or the like.
3. A device of the class described comprising a rigid arm having a pivotally mounted arm thereon intermediate of its ends, and lever operated cam means for controlling the swing 01f said pivotally mounted arm, wire clamping means on'the ends of said arms comprising cam-shaped levers in combination with fixedly mounted blocks, toothed gripping means on said levers and said blocks, and means for operating said levers.
