Description

Patented Jan. 16, i923.
UNITED STATES y 1,442,165 PATENT ortica CHESTER MCKAY, OF GLENBROOK, CONNECTICUT.
GAME. Y
Application iled August 11, 1921. Serial'No. 491,408.
To all whom t may concer/n- Be it known that l, CHESTER MCKAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glenbrook, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act specification.
This invention relates to games, and has In the accompanying drawings, wherein` similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure l is a plan view of a game board constructed substantially in accordance with this invention, showing the positions of the detachable strips in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the board.
Figure 3 is a detailed plan view of one of the detachable strips, and
Figure 4 is a detailed perspective view of one form of clip for holding the detachable strips in position on the board.
The game board l may be made of any suitable material, such as wood, cardboard, or the like, and its dimensions may be varied to suit requirements. On the surface of the board a series of segmental paths 2 are printed, or otherwise marked, and said paths are uniformly divided into concentric spaces 5 by a series of concentric arcs 9, a circular space 4 being leftblank in the center of the board. Through the axis of each of the segmental pairs, which are separated from one another by radial lines 6, extends a radial blank space 3 leaving from the margin of the board to the central space 4.
In radial alinement with the spaces 3, starting points for the players may be indicated on the marginal portion of the board by squares marked A, B, C `and D` On certain of the concentric spaces 5 directions for governing the plays may be indicated, such as Pay 4 counters and Collect 3 counters, as shown in Figure l. It will be understood that these directions arearbitrary and may be changed without depart'- ing from the invention, and that'any or all of said concentric spaces 5 may be marked with similar directions, or some of'said conf centric spaces left blank, as illustrated.
Before commencingl play paper strips 8 are placed along' the radial spaces 3, as indicated in dotted lines in Figure l, said strips 8 crossing one another in the central space 4 and being detachably fastened at their' ends to the board by clips 7 of any suitable construction. As shown, the clips 7 are made of corrugated wire having their extremities inserted in the surface of the board l and their intermediate portions provided wit-h a series of paper clamping points or teeth l0. Said points or teeth may be readily raised with the linger when the ends of the strips 8 are to be placed thereunder, and the resiliency of said clips will clamp said strips to the board when released.
Any suitable form of spinner, dice, or other indicator device may be usedv to designate by chance the number of spaces to be moved by each player in turn, but instead of game pieces or men being used for indieating the progressive plays, each player..
places his mark on the cover strips or sheet of paper on the boa-rd by means of a pencil, rubber' stamp, or other device. The play starts at t-he outer edge of thev segments or paths 2, one of which may be `used by each player, and the progressive plays are counted oft1 on the concentric spaces 5 from the outer edges of said segments toward the central space 4. If a play terminates on one of said concentric spaces` 5 bearing the directions Pay 4 counters or Collect 3 counters, or any other directions which maybe used, the player must comply with said directio-ns, payment being made or collected from a supply of counters of any suitable form which are equally distributed among the players at the startof the game.
ioo
The object of the game is to win all the-v counters from the other players, Aand this may be done in various ways according to any set of rules which may be adopted.
For instance, if a move of one player brings him to a space occupied by another player,- said other player may be required to retire` from the board and also forfeit an agreed number of counters to the first` layer.
When each player reaches the centra spacev L on the hoard fia his own segmental path ".2, he may he permitted to select any olf the other players segmental spaces for travel hack to the margin of the hoard, such selection being' made according to the positions of the other players marks on their respeetive paths and the apparent Chances of Winning Counters from them as just explained, and also by the chances of his escaping Capture himself.
After each gaine, the paper strips S are removed and the newv set substituted there for for reeeiying the players marks in a new gaine.
