Be it known that I, HENRY H. LAMBERT,
a citizen of the United States of America,
and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook,
- and State of Illinois, have'invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Bar Supports and Clamping Devices, of which the concrete construction; to provide an improved formation of the supporting means by means of which the reinforcing bars are supported above the falseworh upon which the concrete is poured; to provide an improved construction and arrangementof the clamping means by which the reinforcing bars are held in place on the spacing memher; and to provide an improved device of this kind which is exceedingly simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
An illustrative embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of a device constructed in accordance with this invention, a reinforcing bar being shown secured in position above one of the supporting legs.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a modified form of device embodying this invention.
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing still another modified form of device embodying this invention.
In the specific embodiments of the invention shown in the accompanying drawings, a strip of metal 1 is doubled upon itself at predetermined intervals along its length so as to provide depending legs 2, with each of which is combined a piece of wire 3 so arranged that itmay bewrz oped around the reinforcing bar 1 for the purpose of securing it in lace.
The strip 1 is of comparatively thin, narrow sheet-metal and is preferably of uniform cross section. This strip is run through a suitable machine and the bends or doubled-over portions are formed in the desired manner with the wires 3 secured in place.
In the form shown in Fig. 1, the bends form a ubstantially W-shaped supporting leg with the doubled-over end 5 of the middle part located adjacent to the plane of the strip 1 and with the lower endsof the outside parts of said legs disposed in substantially the same plane and a predetermined distance from the plane of the strip; In this modification, the wire 3 is gripped in the "upper or doubled-over end 5 of the middle forcing bar A and have their ends twisted together so as to firmly secure said bar in place. i i
In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the bends are substantially the same as in Fig. 1, except the lower ends of the outside parts of the W-shaped legs are enlarged or bowed outwardly so as to provide substantially cylindrical-shaped feet or: hearing members 7. The wires 3 are secured in the middle part of the legs, the same asin Fig. 1.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the strip is doubled upon itself and bent around in the form of an Q so to bring the doubled-over end 8 up against the bottom of the strip 1. In this form, the wire 3 is secured within the doubled-over end 8 and the arms 6 are located in substantially the same relative position as is the case in the other two modifications.
The use of these devices being well un derstood, no explanation of that matter is considered necessary.
Although several modifications have been herein shown and described, it will be understood that no attempt has been made to illustrate all possible modifications embody ing the present invention, and it is also understood that the details of the modifications that are shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. As an article of manufacture, a unitary structure for use as a bar supporting device for concrete reenforcements, comprising a strip of metal doubled upon itself to provide a transversely disposed supporting leg, and a separately formed wire clamping element secured to said strip by being gripped between the doubled-overparts of said leg and adapted to be wrapped around a reinforcing bar resting on said strip;
2. As an article of manufacture, a unitary structure for use as a bar supporting device for concrete reenforcements, comprising a strip of metal of substantially uniform width as to provide arms adapted to be Wrapped around reinforcing bars resting on said strip.
As an article of manufacture a unitary structure for use as a bar supporting device for concrete reenforcements, comprising a strip of metal doubled upon itself and bent back so as to provide a supporting leg With the end formed by the doubling of the strip located adjacent to the plane of said strip, and a Wire secured in said end so as to provide arms adapted to be Wrapped aronnd'a reinforcing bar resting on said strip.

A device of the class described, comprising a strip of metal doubled upon itself to form substantially a W-shaped leggand a Wire secured between the doubled-over portions of the middle part of said W- shaped leg and providing arms adapted to be Wrapped around a reinforcing bar resting on said strip.
5. A device of the class described comprising a strip of metal doubled upon itself to form substantially a W-shaped leg having the upper end of the middle part located adjacent to the plane of said strip and having the lower ends of the outside parts enlarged to provide substantially cylindrical-shaped bearings members, and a W-iresecured between thedoubled-over portions of the mid dle part o'f-said W-shaped le and providing arms adapted to be Wrappe around a reinforcing bar resting on said strip.
