y PORTABLE INCINERATOR.
vApplication led .Tune 29,
To all whom r3 may conce/rn Be it known 'that I, lr-Linens F57. Esi-ini.- MAN. a citizen of the yUnited yStates,l and a, resident of Newport News, in the county of Warwicky and State of Virginia. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Incinerators, of which the following is a specification,
ily invention relates to inciuerators and the purpose of my invention is theprovision of an incinerator adapted to be applied to a motor truck so as to render the same portf able and to thereby permit of the incineration of refuse while the vehicle is under way. .lt is also a purpose of my invention to provide a portable incineratoriof extremely simple and `inexpensive construction and which effects the complete incineration of garbage to the extent that the fumes emanating-from thev incinerator are odorless. i
I will describe one form of incinerator and two applications of the Same to motor vehicles, and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing in side elevation a motor truck having applied thereto one form of incinerator embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 with portions thereof broken away showing` the incinerator applied to a motor truck at a point intermediate the ends of the truck body.
Figure 3 is a transverse horizontal section of the container and burner embodied in the incinerator shown in the preceding views.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts in each of theseveral views.
Referring specifically to the drawings, my invention in its present embodiment comprises a container or receptacle C substantially of frusto-conical formation with its smallest end disposed lowermost and having an inclined bottom wall 15 with an opening 16 in the forward side of the container adjacent the wall for the purpose of creating a draft upwardly of the container and for admitting the flames from the burner B. Suitably supported in the lower end of the container is a grate 17 arranged to divide the container into an ash pit 18 which is in communication with the opening 16 to permit of the discharge of ashes therethrough. The upper end of the container is spanned by a foraminous material 19 such i922; serial no. 571,636.
as screening or the `like designed for the purposeof preventing the escape from the container of sparks' or other particles elevated by means ofthedraft created in the container. lllithin the lower end of the container a baffle plate l? is provided for the purpose of dellecting the flames upwardly of the container, such plate having an arcu'# ately and inwardly curved portion 2O for this purpose. The plate F is also formed with a reversely `curved `portion v21 which forms a support for the material in the container and thereby `allows ofthe proper draft being created. s n
illustrated to advantage in F igure 3 the burner B is provided with aplurality ofl ets `22 all arranged in the same horizontal plane to evenly distribute the llames across the surface of the grate. Ihis burner Buis adapted to be supplied'with` oil oro'ther'suitableiformoffuel by means ofa pipe 23 connected to a fuel supply tank 24e, For putting the fuel contained in the tank 24 under pressure so as to convey the same to the burner B and to create the necessary pressure to atomize the fuel as it leaves the jets, a pump 25 is provided.
In the application of the incinerator to a motor vehicle as shown in Figure 1, the container C is supported at the rear end of the truck body by means of brackets 26, and in such manner that the opening v16 is arranged at ,the forward side of the container to allow of the deposition of the ashes beneath the vehicle. IIhe pipe 23 is extended beneath the truck body and to one side where it is supported in a bracket 27. The tank 2li is supported on a ledge 28 and brackets 29 are provided for securely retaining the tank as well as the pump 25 thereon. The pump is disposed in convenient position for operation by the driver of the motor vehicle so that when the vehicle is under way the pump can be operated to maintain sufficient pressure in the tank 24 for the purpose previously described.
In Figure 27 the container C is disposed intermediate the ends of the truck bodys a suitable opening being formed in the ltruck body and the container secured therein by means of brackets 30. 1With the container so arranged its lower end is disposed beneath the truck body so that the ashes will be de posited therebeneath, andthe opening 16 disposed above the burner B. `'lhe tank 24 and the pump v25 are arranged in the salme` manner as Shown in Figure L .so that the operator of the Vehicle can actuate the v pump.
In the operation ot theA incinerator, the garbage or other refuse matter is introduced into the container so that the main bulk thereof-is supported on the portion 2l of the plate P. With the burner'B lighted the lHaines emanating from the jets 22 are prois completely consumed so that the products of combustion are oderless. Thisallows of the use ot the incinerator on a Vehicle When the latter' is actually'under Way and thereby eliminating the necessity of therefuse inatter being conveyed to some. remote point for incineration, and the attendant expense incident to such conyeyanceu .Although I have` herein shownl and de- :ua-admi scribed. only one form et incinerator' ein b'odying my invention, it is'to be understood that various changes and inodiiications may be made herein Without vdeparting from the spirit of the invention or the spirit and scope or" the appended claims. l
What I claim is: l
1. in incinerator comprising a container haring an inc-lined bottom anda screened upper end. a discharge opening adjacent the ljiottoni. a grate Within the container adjacent the discharge opening, a burner adjacent the disclia rge openingxv and a baiile plate -Within the container and arrangijed to deflect the flame Jrom the burner upwardly into the container. e
2. .ein incinerator comprisinga container of truste-conical tor-m having an ash discharge opening.;` adjacent its lower end and a bottoni Wall inclined in the direction of the opening, a grate Within the container adjacent the opening, a baliie plate Within and curved inwardly of the container, a burner arranged adi acent the opening and including va plurality of jets arranged in a horizontal plane to uniformly'distribute the llames over;y
the surface of the grate,'and means for Supplying the fuel under pressure tothe burner.
