l Application filed September 10,1321. Serial No. 499,637.
To all whom t may concern:
Be 1t known that l, GEORGE t. WiesinroN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Kalamazoo, Statev of Michigan, have invented 'certain new and useinl improvements in Temporarylinders,
of which the following yis a specification.
rlhis invention relates to'r improvements in temporary binders. p
The mainv objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved temporary binder or loose sheet holder'wvell adapter.- iior the holding Ofloose sheets, circulars and the like, which is easily adjusted to secure the sheets and to ypermit their removal and insertion and at the same time one in which the sheetsare securely held. y n Second, to provide an improved ybinder for loose sheets which is very simplef andreconemica] in structure and at the same time neat and attractive in. appearance.
Further objects, and objects relating to y structural details, 'will `definitely 'appear from the detailed description to follow.
.I accomplish the Objects of my invention by the .devices and means described in the 'Following specification. The inventionis clearly defined and pointed outy in the claims. g
A struc-ture which is a preferred embodiment of inyinventionjs lclearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing7 forming a part of this application, in Which:
Fig. I is a perspective view of a binder embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. Il is a transverse section on a line corresponding to line 2--2 or Figs. l andlll, parts being shown in full lines for convenience in illustration, the' disengaged position of one of the couplingmembers being indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. lll is a detail longitudinal section on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Figs. l and Il, parts being shown in full lines .tor convenience in illustration.
Fig. lV is a perspective view of one of the binding` barsrelnoved from its attaching flap.
F ig. V is a perspective view ot one of the sheet-engaging posts.
In the dra-Wing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughoutthe several views.
Referring to theA dra-Wing, the covers l. l are, in the embodiment illustrated, connected y provided With a head l5 y'aligned With the holes of a flexible bach 2. Within the covers are i binding bars 3, the same being hingedly secured by means of the binding flaps 4L. rlhese binding bars have inwardlyfprojecting post-engaging studs 5,'the studs of the two bars being disposed 4out of alignment. l vThe 'sheet-engaging y posts 6 are adapted to receive these studs, being preferably tubular, as illustrated, the bores providing ysockets `7 for the studs. y 4 l l l.
' The posts are provided with sheet-engaging heads 8. The sheets 9 are provided with alignedholes 10 adapted to receive the posts which are arranged therein from opposite sides so asto overlap in thesheet body, thus binding' the sheetsk together as 'a unit. y
The sheet body is secured as a unit Abv inserting the posts and engaging the studs with the posts. The binding'bars are ad. justably connected` by coupling -members 11 ormedo screw-connected sections l2 and 13, the section l2 being pivoted at rll to the lower binding bar andthe section 13 being gageable With-the slot "16 in the upper bindingbar.v rlhev coupling members may be readily adjusted according to the `thickness ofthe Sheet body.
My improved binderisattractive in appearance; there are no v,exposed metal parts and it may be easily manipnlated torv the insertionand removal of sheets; further, the sheets are very securely bound.
Having thus described my inventiom'what .l claim as nen7 and desire to secure by Let-y ters Patent, is:
In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided With holes adapted to receive posts, of covers connected by a fleXi ble baclr, binding bars hinged Within said covers and having inwardly projecting studs said sheets, tubular posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided w ith sheet-engaging heads, the. posts being arranged trom both sides ol1 the sheet body and overlapping therein, said*y studs being adapted to engage said postsv detachably en-y ble back, binding bars hinged within said covers and having inwardly projecting studs aligned with the holes ot said sheets, tubular posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided with sheet-engaging heads, the p posts being arranged from bothv sides or the sheet body and overlapping therein, said studs being adapted to engage said posts whereby they are retained within the binder, and coupling members tor said binding bars.
3. In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of binding bars having inwardly projecting studs aligned. with the holes ot' said sheets, tubular posts engaging said vholes in said sheets and provided with sheet-engaging heads, the posts being arranged 'from both sides of the sheet body and overlapping therein, said studs being adapted to engage said posts whereby they are retained withinthe binder, and disengageable and extensible coupling members for said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.
4. ln a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of binding bars having in wardly projecting studs aligned with the holes of said sheets, tubular posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided with sheet-engaging heads, the posts being arranged from both sides of the sheet body and overlapping therein, said studs being adapt-- ed to engage said posts whereby they are retained within the binder, and coupling inembers for said binding bars. y
5. ln a temporary binder, the combination of the covers connected by a flexible back, binding bars hinged within said covers and having inwardly projecting studs, the studs or' one bar being out ci alignment with those of the other, sheet-engaging posts removably engaged with said studs and pro- `Sided with sheet-engaging heads, and disengageable and extensible coupling members for said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.
6. ln a temporary binder, the combination ot' the covers, binding bars having inwardly projecting studs, the studs or' one bar being out of alignment with ythose of the other, sheet-engaging posts removably engaged with said studs and provided with sheet-engaging heads, and disengageable and extensible coupli-ng members tor said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.r
7. ln a temporary binder, the combination ot the covers connected by a flexible back, binding bars hinged within said covers and having inwardly projecting studs, the studs o one bar being ont of alignment with those et' the other, sheet-engaging posts removably engaged with said studs and provided with sheet-engaging heads, and coupling members for said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.
8. ln a temporary binder, the combination of the covers, binding bars having inwardly projecting studs, the studs or" one bar being ont of alignment with those oit the other, sheet-engaging 1posts removably engaged with said studs and provided with sheet-engaging heads, and coupling members tor said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.
ln witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses. y.
