Description

Dec. 26, 1922.
J REBER CUYLERY SHARPENER. FILED JAN.25. 1922 Patented Dec. Z6, 1922 JOHN REBER, Qi? lill-TW SIG/ C'TLEEZ' SHARFE VIR.
A ilceton filed D To all whom t may conce/rn.'
Be it known that l, Joni: Broni-z, :i citizen of the United States, residing et New York, in the county of' New Yorl und Stute oit N ew York, lieve invented certain new und useful improvements in Cutlery Sharpeners, of which the 'following' is e` specification.
This inventionA relates to cutlery sliepening devices, the .mein object .being to provide e device having u curborunduin wheel mounted between i'rzinies und having slots which l'orin guides for holding e sheer-s y blade or similar other tool, at the proper Figure 2 is u side elevetionul View oi' the seine.
lfigure 3 is e front elevational View oi u niodilied torni ot device having means for rotating the cerborundum wheel.
Figure l is e side elevational view ot 'the sume.
Figure 5 is u perspective view ci 'the screw shifter block used in the modilied torni of device.
Describing the drawing more in detail, numeral l indicates e table or bench. Altho the device is shown mounted on e table, itmuy also be mounted on e well or any other position desired.
I The device consists substantially of e .tranne bese 2 to which u pair oi plete members 3 :rre permanently secured.
These plates 3 have upwerdly extending eers 4C which form side iframes lier un annu ler carborunduin wheel 5. ill-r screw 6 threadebly engages one oit the side iireines d forms sha-it about which the wheel 5 is rotated. rlhe side iframes begin to curi/e outwardly, es indicated by numeral .7 after passing' center screw 6 forming relatively long tapering 8 and are adapted to re- Serial No. "$1,546.
ceive e, knife blade or 'the like securely egeinst the suriece ot the wheel 5. rlhe side ireines ere further provided with slotted Jwys 9 und il located in such manner es to present 'the tool to the wheel et the proper angle to forni the necessary clearance tingle to the cutting edge. rlhe slot 9 is particuler y edupteb e ior shears while 9 is for chisel-s oi the like.
ll`igures 3 and i illustrate e inodiiied forni olf demjce identical to the preferred form but has .in addition en inclined extension l() integrally tornied to both side frames d.
n rectangular recess il in said extension receives a` shifter block lf2 and is slidebly retained by the guide lugs 18 which enge-ge corresponding guide slots formed in the said extension l0.
threaded stud jll is lug le et the lower end shoulders on block l2 und hes e stein. l5 which passes thru hole l@ ot bloclr l2 und extends somewhat above the surface. A reed screw 17 located in extension l0 enguges the end oi? shifter block l2 und when rotated in the required direction will iiirge the seid block toward 'wheel ln use, i lnite blzide is inserted into one ot the sli l end run thru its length, back sind lioirh, until the desired edge has been obtained. ln sharpening shears or other tools, the operation is the seme, but runways in the side iframes used to give the sume the proper clesfreA ce angle. Obviously, continued use oi the device will 'form niclrs und indents in the wheel. ln the preferred torni loosing the screw 6 will permit the wheel to be rotated, manually, to e new surface. ln the modiiied form, e screw driver or lili@ tool is inserted in slot of extension l5 and rotfited. Threaded stud 13 contacting with the periphery' of wheel 5 will slowly rotate nivoted in u soclret the seid letter, thus permitting the slight angular udgustnient to new and unused.
changing the wheel Ytor one of der or larger diameter, screw lil, when 'guleted will p 1mit radial adjustment stud to give proper feed Contact with the new size of wheel.
l claim:
cutlery Sharpener es described comprisA ing :i ot angular sido frames fixed 'to riphery of the earborundum Whee]., a slotted stud adapted to rotate said threaded stem,
a screw adapted to urge the shifter block toward the Wheel and means for rotating l0 Said earborundum Wheel by rotating the; threaded Stem when both elements are in mutual Contact. v
In witness whereof I, aix my signature.
JOHN BIEDER.
