Description

c. MEUN|ER. v GUTTER HANGER. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 10, I921.
1 ,438,127 Patented Dec. 5, 1922.
WITNESSES INVENTOR CHARLECJ Mew/we ATTORNEYS Patented cc. 5, 1922.
NECK, NEW YORK.
e'o'r'rnn HANGER.
Application filed June 10,
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, CHARLES Mnnnrnn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Great Neck, in the county of Nassau, Island, and State of New York, have'invented a new and Improved Gutter Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a hanger and aims to provide certain new and useful improvements in connection with a device of this character, and more particularly a device such as is associated with gutters or leaders.
In connection with hangers of the type specified, it is well appreciated that considerable difficulty has been experienced in providing a hanger which would properly support a leader or gutter, be capable of an adjustment, and which would also permit of its being produced at a nominal figure. 7
Furthermore, difliculty has been experienced in the application of a hanger of the type specified to a leader, in that a relatively great amount of time has been necessary'in properly associating the hanger with the leader or gutter.
Thus it is an object of my present invention to provide a hanger primarily intended for supporting a gutter, and by means of which a supporting element will be provided capable of ready association with the member to be supported.
A further object of my invention is the construction of a device of the character specified which shall be capable of being manufactured at a nominal figure, and which will provide all of the adjustments necessary to the proper hanging of the gutter.
Other objects of my invention will become apparent in the annexed specification, taken in connection with the drawings which latter illustrate one practical embodiment of the same, and in which;
Figure 1 is an end view of the gutter or leader and showing the same supported by means of my improved type of hanger.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof, and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of one of the details of construction of a slightly different form of hanger.
Referring now more particularly to the figures it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 indicates the gutter or leader which is supported by my improved type of hanger, this in turn being suspended from Long . of being struck out as through 1921. Serial No. 476,437.
the caves of a roof or other portioi'n,
means of any conventional type ofstrap 7 preferably provided with a vertical series of opening '8, so as tosupport the hanger' by means of a bolt 9 extending through one of these openings.
'Referrm'g now hanger it will be seen that the same is preferably formed of a flexible material such as brass, or any other-metal may be utilized to advantage in this connection.v The said hanger is conveniently formed of a single body providing a curved portion 10 having one of its ends terminating in a hook 11, its
to'the construction of the I opposite end being curved as at12 to provide a recess capable of accommodating the flange 13 of a gutter, if this type of leader is utilized, a secondary part of said hanger comprising a portion adapted to extend above and transversely of the gutter 5.
This latter portion is preferably twisted as at 14 for the purpose of securing greater rigidity, and also to provide a part capable at 15 to accommodate the end of the strap 7 andlie against the same.
The outer end of the secondary portion of the hanger terminates at a point adjacent the hook 11, and preferably is extended in the form of a prong 16 adapted to project an opening forming a part of the hook portion 11. Thus the workman applying the leader 5 may primarily secure the straps 7 in position, subsequent to which the hanger may be associated with the straps.
The leader or gutter 5 may be applied to i r the hangers by simply detaching the hook 11 from the prong 15 and moving the thus freed ends of the hanger apart and sliding the leader into that space thus provided.
Ihisis also permitted by virtueof the resiliency imparted to thewhole hanger by the curved portion 12 flange 18 of the leader rests in its proper position within this curved portion, the hook 11 may be reattached to the flange 13 and a vertical adjustment of the whole resorted to by means of the openings 8 and bolt 9,"if
' this is found necessary.
The prong 16 and opening of the hook may be dispensed with if this is desired by simply striking the outer end of the transand immediately the versely extending portion, upwardly, as at 17 in Figure 3, this upwardly bent portion co-operating with the inner face of the hook 11, the resiliency and natural tendency of the parts to align serving in this instance to retain the Whole in proper position.
Thus it Will be appreciated that the objects of this invention are accomplished in that a commercially feasible hanger is provided in which the parts will readily conform to the leader, utilized in such a manner that the leader is properly held against movement, this being effected in an extreme- 1y short period of time, in that it is only necessary to separate the ends of the hanger and to slip the leader between the same, subsequent to Which these ends may be reapplied to each other.
Obviously numerous modifications of structure might readily be resorted to with out in the least departing from the spirit of my invention, which I claim as:
' A gutter hanger including in combination a body adapted to extend across a gutter, means for attacl'iing said gutter to said body, an outstruck portion formed in said body at a point substantially intermediate its extremities, the inner face of said outstrnok portion extending: substantially parallel to the major part of the body, a strap adapted to lie flush against the inner face of said outstruck portion, and means extending through said strap and body for retaining said {parts in applied position with re Sp to 68611 er-e. a
