ROCKING BLOTTER.
Application filed March 22, 1921, Serial No. 454,483. Renewed MaylO, 1922. Serial No. 559,901.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY E. PEOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vaverly, in the county of Tioga, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Rocking Blotter; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to blotters of the rocking desk type and has for its object to provide a device of this character wherein a display card may beplaced and held in registration with an elongated opening in the blotter back in such a manner that the display card will be in view at all times.
A further object is to provide the blotter back having an elongated opening extending upwardly from the ends of said opening therein and integral finger engaging members adapted to be grasped by the. operator for holding and rocking the blotter as a whole during a blotting operation. Also to provide downwardly extending notched lugs struck from the finger engaging members, which notched lugs pass through apertures in a horizontally disposed plate on which a display card is disposed, said horizontally disposed plate having pivoted centrally thereon a leaf spring, the ends of the arms of which are received by the notches of the notched lugs for holding the horizontal plate and the display card carried thereby in upward position.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the blotter.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the blotter, parts being broken away to better illustrate the structure.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the blotter top.
Figure 4: is a vertical sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the flat top of the blotter, and 2 downwardly extending flanges carried by the ends of the top. Disposed between the flanges 2 is a downwardly arched plate 3, which plate holds the blotter l in place and by its expansive action jams the ends of the blotter 1 against the flanges 2, therebyholding the blotter in such a manner that it may be quickly attached and detached. The top 1 of the blotter is provided with an elongated opening 5, which opening is practically rectangular shaped. I
Extending upwardly and outwardly from the ends of the opening 5 are integral flanges 6, which flanges form finger engaging mem bers adapted to'be grasped. by the operator for manipulating the blotter.
It will be noted that by forming the flanges 6 integral and the top from sheet metal that the finger engaging fianges 6 may be stamped from the same piece of material thereby reducing the cost of construction to a minimum. Extending clownwardly from the ends of the elongated open ing' 5 and substantially centrally of said ends are lugs 7, which lugs are integral with the top 1 and are stamped from the finger engaging flanges 6 as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 4:. Lugs 7 extend through'apertures 8 in the ends of the display card 9 which display card registers with elongated opening 5. The lugs 7 also extend through apertures 10 and the metallic plate 11. which metallic plate engages the under face of the display card 9 and when forced upwardly maintains the display card in close engagement with the under face of the top 1 adjacent beside of the opening 5. To maintain.
the metallic plate 11 in its upper position and in binding engagement with the card 9 a leaf spring 12 is provided, which leaf spring is pivotally connected as at 13 with the under face of the plate 11 at a point substantially the centre of said plate. The arms 141 curve outwardly and downwardly and the ends thereof are received by the notches 15 in the downwardly extending lugs 7. The spring action of the arms 14 of the leaf spring will exert an upward pressure at all times on the metallic plate 11 and therefore securely hold and bind the display sign 9 wardly and outwardly, it will be seen that the ends of said arms will be spaced from the under face of the plate 11 in such a manner as to allow said arms to exert a spring action. Notches 15 are preferably disposed at a point below the normal position of the in position. By curving the arms 14 downunder face of the plate 11, thereby allowing for the reception of display cards of varying thicknesses.
From the above it will be seen that's blotter top is provided that is simply constructed and one wherein a disp] sign is securely held in registration with an opening in the blotter top, thereby allowingthe blot ter to be used as an advertising;- novelty, or it so desired the card of the owner may be placed in the blotter. I
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is:
l. The combination with the hack of a blotter holder having an elongated opening therein, of upwardly extending integral flanges eicten'ding upwardly from the ends oi the openings and forn'iing finger engaging members, downwardly extending'lugs extending downwardly fr'o'r'n the ends of the opening, said lugs being; struck from the upwardly extending finger engaging flanges, a plate vertically movable on said lugs, a display sign disposed on said plate, a leaf spring pivoted to the plate and having its arms cooperating with notches in the in s whereby said plate will be forced upward 2. The combination with a plate having an elongated aperture therein, of a display sign calendar or the like carried by said plate and held in registration with the elongated aperture, outwardly struck h gs car ried by the plate a slidable plate carried by said lugs and adapted to support and hold a. display sign, a leaf springpivoted to said plate the ends of said leaf spring eooperat inn with notches in the lugs tor holding the lug carried plate and the display sign in binding; enp; gemeut with each other and in registration with the opening in theplate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses HARRY E. PEC K.
