application filed February- 24,1922. Serial No. teaser-y To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, VAN (1. Power, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Perch Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in perch supports, an object of the invention being to provide an improved means for supporting a perch which will positively prevent lice from crawling up to the perch.
A further object is to provide a strong durable support of this character, which will be simple and practical in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will he more'fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing a perch supported. by a pair of my improved supports;
Figure 2'is a top plan view of Figure 1;
Figure 8 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a view in transverse section on the line 4:4: of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a view in elevation showing a slight modification.
Referring in detail to Figures 1 to 4 in elusive of the drawings, I have used the reference numeral 1 to designate a perch supported by. apair of my improved perch supports. ldach'support is preferably made in three pieces or sections. Each support comprises a base plate or attaching plate 2 integral with a standard or supporting arm The base plates are preferably notched, as indicated at 4:, so that they may convenientlv receive securing devices. he standards 3 which are of circular cross section taper toward their upper ends and terminate in squared upper ends 5. Extension members 6 are formed with pockets or recesses 7 in their lower ends adapted to conveniently receive the squared upper ends 5 of the standards 3. These extension members are integral with annular cup shaped members 8 adjacent their lower ends,
The reduced upper ends 9 of the extensions 6 provide shoulders 10 around the extensions. l)islrs 11 having central openings therein receiving the reduced ends of the members 6 are adapted to rest upon the shoulders 10 and serve as protecting covers for the cups 8. The perch l is supported upon the upper reduced ends '9 of the extensions 6 in any approved manner.
In Figure 5, I have illustrated a slight modification, in which attaching plates 12 similar to the plates 2 are secured to a wall 18 by suitable securing devices 14, instead of being supported upon the floor as in the preferred embodiment of the invention shown above. The supporting arms 15 are curved upwardly instead of being straight as in the form of the device shown in Figure 1.
It will be apparent that the invention may be carried out equally well whether the brackets are attached to a floor or wall, or to any other suitable support so long as the other features of construction are utilized. It will of course be understood that the so cups may be filled or partially filled with any suitable insecticide for trapping lice which endeavor to crawl up the supports and reach the perch.
Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself so at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a perch support, a sectional supm5 porting member, one section of said member terminating in an upwardly presented angular end, the other section of said member having a recess in its lower end receiving said angular end of the first mentioned section, a cup integral with the lower portion of the second mentioned section, said section including a reduced upper end, and a disk fitting said upper end and protecting the cup.
2. In a perch support, a sectional supporting member, one section of said mem: ber terminating in an upwardly presented angular end, the other section of said member having a recess in its lower end receiv- 110 ing said angular end of the first mentioned section, a cup integral with the lower portion of the second mentioned section, said section including a reduced upper end, a disk fitting said upper end and protecting the cup, and an annular shoulder at the base of said reduced portion spaced above the cup and supporting said disk.
3. A perch supporting member formed of 10 two sections, one section having a. polygonal VAN O. POTTER.
