JOHN E. HARRINGTON, OF BROOKLYN, ILLINOIS.
POULTRY-BOOST.
Application filed June 23, 1919.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN E. l VARRING- ron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Schuyler and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Poultry-Roost, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to poultry roosts, the object being to provide a roost wl 'ch will exterminate vermin existing on the poultry and which will also retain the coop in a clean and sanitary condition.
A. further object of the invention is to provide a roost which is adapted to contain an insecticide to exterminate vermin on the fowls and which will not come into contact directly with the fowls.
Another object of the invention is to provide a poultry roost which embodies a novel form of container for containing the insecticide.
An additional object is to provide a roost having the above characteristics which is simple in construction, which consists of but few parts, and which may be manufactured and marketed at a minimum cost.
l/Vith the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the combinations of elements, constructions and arrangements of parts, and general assemblage which will be hereinafter enlarged upon and pointed out in the subjoined claim.
On the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of a poultry roost embodying my'invention Fig. 2 is an elevation of the roost taken at right-angles to Fig. 1;
3 is a fragmentary sectional view of one of the roost supporting rails showing the roost rail and the insecticide cup mounted thereon, the cup and roost rail being shown in vertical cross section; and
Fig. 4 is a top elevation of the cup re moved from the roost.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference designate like parts on all of the views, the numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of horizontally disposed parallel roost supporting rails which are hinged at their inner ends as indicated at 7 and which have supporting legs 8 mounted at their outer ends.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 192(1 Serial No. 305,959.
The rails 5 and 6 are provided with alined recesses 9 in their upper faces. Insecticide cups are provided each of which includes a vertical stem 10 which extends centrally from the concaved face of a cup 11. The opposite face of this cup 11 is formed with a projection 12 which seats in one of the openings 9 in the upper face of the rails 5 and 6. In this instance four of these cups are provided and supported on the rails 5 and 6, while supported on the reduced ends 13 of these stems 10, are a pair of roost bars extending at right-angles to the rails 5 and are provided with recesses 14: in their under faces which receive the reduced ends of the stems and support the roost bars. The cups are so positioned as to allow their under faces to contact with the upper faces of the bars 5 and 6, thus lend ng rigidity to the structure.
From the above disclosure it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and inexpensive poultry roost which will render the coop strictly sanitary and which at the same time will not poison or injure the fowls in any way whatsoever.
The construction illustrated and described is considered the preferred form of the invention but it should be understood that the same may be modified in many respects, and that my limits of modification are governed only by what is claimed.
VYhat is claimed is In a poultry roost, a plurality of horizontal supporting rails having socket-forming recesses in the top faces thereof, cups comprising stems having each a circumscribing recessed flange resting on the rails and provided with stems extending into the recesses. the upper ends of the stems being reduced to form shoulders and roost bars having sockets receiving said upper portions and engaging said shoulders.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN E. IVAR RINGTON.
