T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID VVIENER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Merchandise-Display Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention is an improvement in merchandise display devices, and relates especially to a new and improved construction of form, especially adapted for the display of head gear. In devices of this character now in use,the form is made of wax or papier-mach molded to shape, and appropriately colored. Either construction is objectionable. Forms made of wax are expensive, fragile, and deteriorate quickly, and in neither type is there any provision for adjustment, neither being capable of change in dimension. A degree of adjustment is desirable, especially in the display of head gear, for it is obvious that to make an attractive display, the head should fit the hat. If provision is made "for adjustment, it is essential, that the relation between the distinguishing characteristics of the form, and the form itself, be not noticeably changed. The object of the present invention is to provide a form, shaped to represent a member of a body, as for instance the head of a person, soconstructed that it may be enlarged or lessened within limits, to permit adjustment to size, without distortion of the distinguishing characteristics of the form, and without noticeable disturbance between the relation of the characteristics and the form.

In the present embodiment of the invention, the improved form comprises a base or pedestal 1 of wood or the like, which may be suitably ornamented and painted it desired, and may obviously take many difierent shapes, in accordance with conditions. The form proper comprises a hollow body 2 of rubber or the like, shaped to present externally the distinguishing characteristics of a member of a body, for example, the head of a person, as shown in the present instance. substantially circular cross section, which is received in a recess 4 in the top of the base, and is secured to the base, by means of a plate 5 arranged within the neck portion of the form. The base or pedestal has a central opening 6, and at this opening a valve 7 is arranged, the said valve being of usual construction, such as are used in pneumatic tires, for permitting the form to be inflated. The neck portion of the body is shaped externally to represent a collar and tie, and the bottom of the collar provides an annular shoulder 8, which rests upon the base 1 about the recess 4.

The distinguishing characteristics of the form, in the present instance, the nose, mouth, chin, eyes, ears and adjacent parts, are suitably formed on the body of the form as clearly shown in Figure 2, and the entire form is of such thickness, that the distinguishing characteristics will hold shape, whatever the condition of the form, within limits, as regards inflation. In the construction shown, the features will not be distorted, nor will the relation between the features and the head be noticeably disturbed. WVhen for instance the form is inflated to fit the largest size hat, the features will be enlarged, those portions of material forming the features, being put upon the stretch, but the wall of the form is of suiticient thickness to enable the features, or other distinguishing characteristics of the form, to hold shape without distortion. In order to present an attractive display, the hat for instance should not be disproportionate to the features, and with the improved construction there will be enough enlargement of the features during maximum inflation, so that there will be no such disproportion. The thickening of the form wall is not of such extent as to hinder collapsing of the form when deflated, as for instance by pushing one-half the form into the other half, for storage or shipment. While the improved form is especially designed for displaying head gear, it is obvious that it might be used for the display of other goods, and that it might be made in various shapes, in accordance with the end to be attained. It will be understood that when the form is a form for displaying head gear, it may be provided with two faces, the said faces looking in opposite directions. In such case the minor characteristics of the form, as for instance the collar and tie would be corre spondingly shaped. The improved form is demountable from the pedestal, and may be used with other shaped. pedestals if desired.

I claim:

A device for displaying head gear, comprising a hollow inflatable form shaped to represent a head, and designed to display head gear, the form Wall being of flexible resilient material whereby it may be inflated to fit various sizes of head gear, and of such thickness that the form When inflated Will support unaided an article of head gear and that portion of the form Wall comprising the features will hold shape when the form is inflated or deflated beyond the normal inflation Without noticeable disturbance of the relation bet-Ween the features and form, and a base to which the neck portion of the head is connected tosupport the form in an upright position When inflated.
